Obtain Wp On A Bogus Job

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody,

I'm a 29 year old graphic/webdesigner from Holland. I'm getting sick and tired of seeing this beautiful little country being wracked by an idiot government, so i want move to Thailand. In time find myself a nice Thai lady and live the rest of my life with a tan and a smile on my face.

My plan is to continue my work as a designer and serve Dutch customers via the internet. My current employer is willing to put me on one or two contracts so i'm assured of at least two years of steady income. Unfortunately I will not be able to obtain a working permit since advertising is on the list of prohibited work for farangs, and i doubt the fact i only work for Dutch would make a difference. How about that for a major bummer.

As for my question; some friends of mine, a Thai lady and her Dutch husband, are planning to move to Thailand as well and start up a business. Is there any possibility of them hiring me on a bogus job so i can take up a little part of their office, turn on my powermac and start smiling? :o

I am no professional and can only give you advice based on my own experiences and i cannot guarantee this is legal or may work, its simply a suggestion. If you can work as a web developer here, simply state in your work permit application that the advertising is done by a thai individual (friend, etc.) or something like that. I know its very basic advice, but it may get you out of the "cannot do this because its a prohibited category" problem.

Hope it helps :o

You can only get a work permit working for a company that is registered in Thailand.

You can be employed as an advertsining consultant (or web developer) to support foreign language (or specifically, Dutch clients, in local language) - that will easily justify why job cannot be done by a Thai.

So long asyour friends who start a Thai company capitalize it at a minimum of 2,000,000 baht, they can sponsor you for a work permit. You need to arrive with a non-immigrant ClassB visa (preferable one-year, multiple-entry). Once here, you will have to depart Thailand on a visa run every 90 days - up until your employer has four Thai employees plus 2,000,000 baht paid-in capita, foreach farang employee.

Good luck!

Okay, so there will be no problem! My friends will register the company in Thailand and then hire me as a webmaster for their dutch website. I don't know about four additional employees, but i won't mind doing a visa run every 90 days.

Muchos gracias!

I have nothing to add to the advice given by Indo-Siam on the obtaining of a WP However if the only reason you wish to move to Thailand is the above then i suggest that you should think the plan through again. Particularly if you plan to have your own small business.

In short time you might well think tha Holland does have a lock on 'idiot governments' and if you plan to run your own small business the smile and tan might well fade fairly quickly.

Thailand is not perfect and is certainly no paradise. It is my chosen adopted country and i have no plans to leave here but then again my reasons for coming here and staying were a lot more than 'my home country's government sucks"

I understand your point qwertyuiop. And thanks for your advice, I do appreciate it. Although me being fed up with the way things are going around here definitly is the primary one, it surely is not the only reason for me wanting to take my chances somewhere else. I just did not have the time nor felt like writing down my complete motivation. Besides that, it would dramatically decrease the chance of getting a reaction due to the length and boring nature of the story.

And yes, I fully realize Thailand is no paradise. Paradise doesn't exist. At least on this planet it doesn't. But I do think Thailand comes a lot closer to it than the Netherlands though, and I think it would be a nice change in my life to go and find out if I'm right. Okay, perhaps the image of me living the rest of my life with a smile on my face is a little shortsighted, but I happen to have a positive attitude and I don't need a whole lot to be contented. Smile-mode will most definitly be on far more when I'm over there :o
