I need to know where to buy wall studs (either steel or wooden) and drywall (wallboard/gypsum board or whatever you want to call it) in Nakhon Sawan province. I'm tired of these exposed wires and blue waterlines. Thanks.

Hi Dave

You should find all you need at Homex (a large Home Depot type store) on the Nakhon Sawan bypass. Can't recall their website address but you'll find it via Google.

Strange, I've been in that store a few times, looked around and asked about them (granted I don't know the Thai word and trying to get them to understand was an exercise in frustration), but the mantra of Thailand's retail/service staff came back to haunt me "mai mee".

I haven't purchased these particular items there but assume they are stocked in the warehouse at the end of the car-park (which contains basic building materials such as cement, etc).

Thais use the same word "gypsum", with emphasise on the last syllable (as usual); ask for "pen gypsum" (gypsum board). I'm sure you know timber is "mai"; not sure what size you'd choose to use but if 3" (3"x1½") ask for "mai naa sarm".

There are probably loads of building-supply stores nearer to you. These two items are normally available in the larger outlets. I can direct you to stores in Lat Yao and San Chao (between Khao Chon Kan and Lat Yao) that have them if you cannot find them closer to home.

To be honest, I'm fairly certain I didn't use the word "gypsum"(I googled it so that it would be understandable in by the international community of the forum...that reminded me of the word). That's the good old American upbringing for you. Hence the "drywall" in the title. :o

I am most used to working with 1,5x3,5" studs(2 by 4 in American speak), and the 4x8 sheets of drywall. I was looking for steel versions of the studs, since I don't really relish the thought of having to drill holes to pass the cables/pipes. It's much easier to simply used knock-outs!

And actually, Lat Yao is MUCH closer than Nakhon Sawan; don't know why I didn't think to look there. Perhaps you could give me an idea of where the store is located...not that it would be hard to find considering how small Lat Yao is.

Porn Charoen Concrete is a large dealer of building supplies. The main shop occupies the lower half of a very large, impressive, white-painted house, with a large warehouse behind it. I'm not quite sure of your route but I'll explain it as if you were coming from Khao Chon Kan.

You reach the main T-junction after passing the police station and Amphur buildings (all on the right side). The left turn at the junction takes you to Nakhon Sawan; the road straight on takes you to Tap Than, Uthai. Go straight on. There's a right turn about 100 metres - ignore it: drive straight on. You'll see a large petrol station on the right, perhaps 300 metres after that T-junction. The shop is also on the right, perhaps a further 100 metres. I don't think you can miss it - lots of spirit houses, etc outside at the frontage.

Let me know if you are unsure of my description. I can't recall if you have my phone number - PM me if you need it.

Edit: By the way, they are likely to have a range of hardboard 8'x4' wall pannelling, including teak. I guess they'll have the metal fasteners too.

Yes please let us know if you find the metal wall studs as I have not seen them in any hardware stores yet.

The price and size would be nice.

Only one company I enquired re metal studs and they would not sell individualy, they build the walls and sell the pre built stuff, obviously at a markup.
