Hi,

where can I find Scar Guard MD for sale here in Bangkok? I tried Boots and many hospitals' pharmacies but there is no success yet.

Help is appreciated. Thanks.

hi zaza. im not sure if Scar Guard MD is one of the sticker things that you put over a wound or not. i cant help you with that one, but apparently hirudoid is pretty good for scarring. not sure if it is for heavy duty scars or not.

i have heard that to help internal healing, as well as scarring, you should drink aloe vera juice each day. i drank it before and after an operation a few years back and the doc was amazed at how fast i healed up.

Hi dear Donna,

That Scar Guard is not silicon sheet, but it can be applied as nail polish on scars. It includes steroids,Vitamin E and silicone though. HiruScar is good but it is for minor scars, I guess.

where can aloe vera juice be bought here in Bangkok ?

I haven’t seen scar guard for sale, not that I’ve been looking.

Along the same lines as Donnas suggestion for aloe vera, an Ex (Thai) had some serious surgery years ago which resulted in a 12 inch scar.

The surgeon recommended she didn’t eat Pork, dark meat or durian while the scar healed. This advice appeared to work as the scar healed much smaller and without the usual dark raised area other scars had.

I am interested in a reduction of a scar from a wound where I recently had sutures removed.

Two of the Dr's I work with who I had lunch with suggested Primrose Oil yesterday but i will have to do more research - this is not their field ;-)

I will ask around the other Dr's at work

Thanks for the reply, but did she use any scar-keloid's preventing creams or silicone sheets as well?

It was a few years ago. From what I remember she initially wore a medicated gauze strip covered by a cotton bandage until the scar had sealed. After that the area was open to the air and no creams applied.

hi zaza. you can actually buy scar guard md online from their website. i guess you may have looked at this already but their website is scarguard.com

i would suggest that maybe any plastic surgeon may have it. even if you go to somewhere like bumrungrad and ask a doctor there, they may prescribe it for you. worth a shot lovey.

For prevention of scarring, you can buy CicaCare at many pharmacies, Should start applying it as soon as the sutures have been removed. It makes a huge difference.

For scars that have already formed (old wounds), laser or surgical revision. the later means basically that the doctor excises the scarred tissue and draws new skin edges together to form a new, thinner suture line upon which once sutures are out CicaCare can be applied.

It will be two weeks on Saturday since i had the sutures out - is there still time for me to use it?

I asked the Dr at Bumnrungrad where i had them out (put in in Singapore) about anything to take down the scare and he said it was OK - then at work a number of Dr's have commented on the size of it.

Scarguard is only available in US for online orders.

I think Secacare=silicone sheets is the only thing available here in Bangkok at the moment.

Well, it won't do any harm but at 2 weeks post suture removal it is not likely to help much either, because the incision by now will have healed. Basically what the CicaCare does is cemeent the wound edges together so that it heals with minimal scarring.

You could try it if it looks to you like it is still healing. But if scar tissue has already formed, basically you have to either live with it or get a scar revision. For that I would suggesta dermatlogist as they are usually good at poutting in very fine sutures and paying attention to aesthetics. It is a simple enough thing to do: they just excise the scar tissue, pull the edges of the skin closely together and put in very tiny tight sutures..upon removal of which, you use CicaCare for another 2-4 weeks. But need to be sure the original wound is fully healed before going for this.

Thanks - it was a plastic surgeon who put it the sutures so I am hoping they were fine ones.

As a big scaredy cat I have not even looked at it myself yet :o

I was just at lunch with my pal from work who is a Dr but specialises in Oncology - he is giving me the name of something but he did inspect it and said it was healing OK.
