Car Collides with Cattle Herd in Buriram, Cows and Vehicle Damaged
Picture courtesy of KhaoSod In a startling early morning incident in Buriram province today, a family car crashed into a herd of cattle, resulting in the deaths of four cows and significant damage to the vehicle. The accident unfolded around 3am, just a few hundred metres past the Prakhon Chai highway maintenance unit on Road 24, heading towards Nang Rong district. Arriving at the scene, Police Lieutenant Wasan Saetang found a Mazda sedan, its front smashed, with airbags deployed, an indication of a severe collision. The car, bearing a Surin registration, was driven by 26 year-old Suratikan, who sustained minor bruises but was otherwise fortunate, as the safety features saved her and her fellow passengers. Suratikan shared that she was driving from Surin to Bangkok with relatives when ten cows unexpectedly crossed their path in the dark, making it impossible to avoid them in time. While the remaining animals fled into nearby forests, the impact tragically killed three heifers and a bull, all aged between one and three years. This incident left the car with shattered windows and extensive damage, likely leading to repair costs running into hundreds of thousands of baht. Despite the ordeal, Suratikan was grateful for the safety gear that spared her and her passengers from severe harm. However, she issued a strong plea to livestock owners, urging better containment of their animals, especially during nighttime, to prevent such dangerous encounters. In an unexpected twist, local residents chose to purchase the cow carcasses for butchery, intending to aid Suratikan with the expensive car repairs. Meanwhile, police are actively working to identify the cattle owner responsible, pursuing legal action to facilitate compensation for the damage incurred, reported The Thaiger. -- 2025-03-18 -
