To Cambodia (poi Pet) For My Second Entry.

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I just came back from Cambodia on the second entry of my tourist visa. I thought Cambodia would be difficult, and i had done my best to prepare to go down that road.

The Thai side was full of opportunities to get cheated, as usual, but no new tricks to overcome.

So i departed from the Thai side and quickly arrived on the Cambodian side. Well there, i was persuaded to apply for a visa in a room to the left after the bridge. They also offered to fill in the application for me, but i declined as i know from previous experience that it would not be of any benefit to me.

I completed my application and was told to pay 1000 THB. I objected the price of the visa and told them that i would like to pay $20 for my visa. They then pointed to another place on the other side of the road and told me to go there if i wanted a $20 visa.

I went to the other place, which had a sign to announce the tourist visas for $20, but again i was told to pay 1000 THB. I told them that i wanted the $20 visa, and they told me to spend 3 days to get it from Bangkok. I thought about what they just told me for a few seconds before i decided to go back to the Thai side to tell them about the story.

I told the officers on the Thai side what had happened and they told me that what i was asked to pay was the price it was going to be, and that it would be up to me to take it or leave it.

Of course this was expected, but the object of the exercise was to see how "fixed" the price of the visa was and to make this story a bit public.

Anyway, I went back through their thousand baht shortcut and passed through the Cambodian immigration in no time at all! :o

In general i think that the people were friendly and that it was remarkably smooth to enter Cambodia at this border crossing, and to pass in the other direction was absolutely no problems at all.

That's about it! :D

Best regards,

Hans
