Ju On Vs The Grudge

Featured Replies

The Grudge is the curse of one who dies in the grip of a powerful rage. Those who encounter this murderous supernatural curse die and a new one is born, passed from victim to victim in an endless, growing chain of horror.

Just seen The Grudge, an American re-make of JU-ON, and while some of the shocks are still there, the story has been diluted and simplified, resulting in a disappointing 90 minutes.

The actors are fine, Sarah Michelle Gellar is good as the lead role and Bill Pullman is ever-reliable as a dodgy professor. The boy is the same boy from the Japanese version and many of the Japanese actors are reprising roles. Gone are various subplots, also gone is my favourite character from JU-ON, the cop who investigated the original case years earlier.

I felt a bit cheated by this movie purely because I thought the Hollywood producers would add something. Instead they have changed the movie into a quick fix shocker, and those who haven't seen JU-ON will be confused at this version.

Anyone else like JU-ON and want to comment?

It's not a straight copy but they left elements of the original out that should have stayed in.

I'm waiting for the upcoming Hollywood remake of the Pang brothers "The Eye".... Hope it doesn't suck..... :o

DJ Pat- saw the Grudge. I was a bit disappointed- reminded me a lot of the Ring, and I didnt exactly like the ending. (too predictable)

Are they planning on continuing the JU-on series?

I love them but my wife's a bit spooked by the kid.

Japanese horror is pretty ###### good these days.

Yeah agree with you there. Ju-on scared the pants off me but The Grudge was pretty timid compared.

Not a huge fan of Asian films but they are pretty ###### good at the horror genre!

The Eye scared the pants off me too, the scene where she's in the lift and the old dead guy drifting toward her Aaaaaaaaghh!!!! :o

I like Ju-On more. I also like The Grudge.Ju-on more scary for me. and I watch Ju-On is more understand than The Grudge. the ghost movie I like the most is "The Exorcist" the original one. around 30 years ago? this movie made so real when the ghost entering to the little girl.

JU-ON 3 is out but only in dubbed Thai language, no subtitles, which is a disappointmemt.

I've found the original Japanese titles better in most of the re-done horror flicks- The Ring, included. Japanese are just better at being creepy and horrifying than most Westerners.

Hey! I can't even find Ju-on 2 with English subtitles! Where can I get it in Bangers??

(Tried most of the knockoff DVD places and Tsutaya!!)
