Just heard that Bush will visit South Korea and Thailand on his way to the opening ceremonies at the Olympics. Don't know the exact dates yet, but guessing he'll be here sometime between the 5th and 7th of August????

Hey, maybe his presence with give the PAD something to do and they will leave poor ol' Samak alone!

D@mn, just what we don't need (I'll be flying out around those dates) :o

With luck they'll fly the idiot into Don Mueang so that fare paying passengers don't get inconvenienced by his requirements at Swampy.

Expect expressway closures when they move him around.

Don't see Thailand as on the way to China from the US, but GWB probably does. Wonder who he is talking to in Thailand to set this thing up? He must have a lot more info as to the safety and longiviety of the powers that be, than they have themselves, if you believe newspaper articles about threats of kidnap, bombs etc.

I actually feel safer in Thailand than in the US for some reason...except for the felons and pedophiles that come to BKK to hide. I've never bought in to the hype of the threats.

As for routing, not sure whether he comes to South Korea or Thailand first. I don't get back in until late on the 5th...so with my luck, that's when he'll come in. If they treat him anything like the Thai Royals, they'll block the whole city. I can't even imagine the US Secret Service demanding anything like the treatment Thaksin's wife gets.

Should be a giggle.

Do you think he will go to Cowboy???

PS:Why is he attending the Olympics given China's disgraceful human rights record?

Maybe he will give us some good Bushisms to laugh at during his trip, sometimes I understand the English spoken by bar girls better than I can understand GWB.

Legal question.

Foreigners in Thailand obviously cannot protest against anything in Thailand.

However, do you think it would be legally OK for foreigners (Americans included) to protest against Bush on Thai soil?

Probably not, I guess. In any case, I hope the Thai people come out and boo the hel_l out of him, He is a disgrace and a great embarrassment to all decent Americans.

As well as massively and deservedly unpopular, the least popular president in our polling history.

$$$$

The Chinese have the power to destroy the US economy by calling in their money in American investments. China is too big and too powerful to anger. They are now the equal to America in world domination, and it will only get worse (from an American perspective).

Not intended to be an all inclusive list. Just to show how easy it is to come up with some unflattering things to mention.

The developing world look to the Chian model now - the Washington Consensus let them down

Says who?

I have read it is illegal. It could mean being deported, having our visas cancelled. I am referring to protesting against Thai government policy or getting involved in Thai politics. We aren't allowed. I think that is pretty clear.

Well he will probably be the first ever farang to be intellectually inferior in LOS :o

now now - he might go to Washington Square where he will fight thr Vietnam war all over again and lament how the Generals ans politicians let them down - then he will be reminded he hid in American and a charlie and booze filled daydream - The Swift VBoat Veterans will be hiding behind him though

Uh, the Thai government when the Olympic torch came through threatening deportation of any foreigners protesting.

He said protesting about anything in Thailand. The governments huffing and puffing about the Olympics-protests was a PR-stunt.

He's coming here for the sex like all of us. and get drunk

It doesn't surprise me that he's going to the Olympics. That whole circus should be interesting. Except I'm boycotting by not going. Is it OK to watch it on TV?

An avatar of him with the earphones on, like the Hitler one, wouldn't be funny. That's him.

Yes, he said "in Thailand" (which the torch was) not "about Thailand". However they didn't seem to care about the farang girls in swim suits protesting against KFC. :o

Added emphasis.

Still haven't seen any indication it would be against any laws.

You may be right but appears they (government) sometimes use tactics to circumvent it. The outcome by the courts and the Constitution seems to support it is legal. Though in this case, the 10 activists were Thai and don't know how foreigners would be treated in the same circumstances.

"The right to freedom of opinion and expression and the right to freedom of assembly are enshrined in section 45 and section 63 respectively of the 2007 Constitution of Thailand.

However, it is often the case that when protestors attempt to make their views known through peaceful protests they get the metaphorical "book thrown at them". A similar bundle of offences have been used against protestors in the past. The cumulative penalty that can result from these charges may be up to as many as 26 years imprisonment. (See commentary Protest more serious than killing at UPI Asian Online)

The use of punitive charges in an attempt to stifle legitimate protests and concerns by citizens is an unacceptable and worrying trend in Thailand. Other 'legal' means of suppressing opinion have been employed by the state before, for example, when protestors demonstrating against the building of a gas pipeline project on the border with Malaysia were accused of violence against the police. In that case the court found that the protestors were expressing their genuine constitutional rights and we would hope that the Government has learnt from the precedent set by the court. (See AHRC-AS-224-2007) "
