Hello-

Lonely Planet's Thailand edition 2001 edition (page 72) reads:

"The 30-Day, no-visa stay can be extended for seven to 10 days (depending on the immigration office) for 500 baht.  You can also leave the country and return immediately to obtain another 30-day stay.  There is no limit on the number of times you can do this, nor is there a minimum interval you must spend outside the country."

The fact that citizens of only certain countries can receive 30 day transit visas aside, has anyone heard anything or had any experience that would contradict the last sentence quoted above?  Is there really no official limit on the number of times you can obtain a new transit visa back to back, and can you really just walk across the border and turn around?  Thanks for any reliable info or experience.

The 30-Day, no-visa stay

This is not a "transit visa".   And people have, on occasion, been told not to return for another entry without a break.  But have not heard of anyone not able to return after an exit  yet.

Any limit placed is at the discretion of the Consular Officer dealing with the application. If he/she thinks you MIGHT be up to no good, eg. working or living in the Country, the visa can be declined. That decision can be up to the individual officer concerned.

According to the immigration office I spoke with, there is no limit to the number of no visa stays. But if they beleive you are going unusually freqently, they may contact your embassy to come interview you regarding your possible involvement in the drug trade.

There was a rule posted on this site saying there was a six time limit on the no visa stay, whereupon you had to wait 6 months or go to a consualte and actually apply for a tourist visa. if this is true, it doesn't seem to be enforced. Actually, the immigration officers I talked with aren't even aware of it.
