I’m looking for a drying cabinet for my photo equipment.

I know where I can buy them in Bangkok but as I’m living in Phuket this is a problem. ( taking it by plane is not a real option in my opinion )

I asked the usual shop in Phuket but they don’t sell them and are not able to order them as this is what they told me.

Can I buy this somewhere on line in Thailand so that it is delivered to Phuket ?

Or does anybody know if I can buy this somewhere in Phuket?

Any other suggestions are also welcome off-course.

You could get an airtight plastic box and some of dessicant stuff - will work, depending how often you open the box. Plus get a humidity meter -

AFAIK, there are two companies selling drying cabinets. The first one is the company that I bought one more than ten years ago and have had it serviced this year, the company name is Leo-Lab, located in Nong Kham Petchkasem area (you may look in the yellow pages since their web page is not accessible at this moment) they have several sizes and probably other brands than the Weifo that I am using.

The other company is APS (Advance Photo Supply) located on CharoenKrung, Yaowaraj. This company sells many photo-products from China. The quality is not known since I have never used any drying cabinet from this company.

The other option is buy a sizable airtight (not neccessary 100% airtight) box and put in a few drying agent, it comes in a small plastic container available under many brands and can be purchased at either Lotus or Carefour superstore. A box cost somewhere around 40 bahts and if you look for an economy pack of three it will be much cheaper. It is more economical than using Silica gel which needs more frequent replacement. The one I am using is Happy dehumidifier brand bought from Lotus superstore in Bangkok. One box can dehumidify a close space of about 3-4 cubic feet. My hygrometer is reading about 40% which is a comfortable humidity for photograpic lens storage. I have not yet changed mine after opening about 4 months ago.

At Carefour you can also find an electric dehumidifier under the brand Bluesky manufactured in China and cost about 4000 bahts each. I use this machine to control humidity of my office to not over 60%.

One machine can extract about 8 litres of water everyday.

I hope I can give some idea about humidity control if you need more information please write again.

Hi Silverliner,

Thanks’ for the information.

Do you if those two companies do on line ordering as I’m living in Phuket and they are not sold over here.

Another option i was thinking about is buying an electric dehumifier which i can put in an Tupperware box en dry the air inside this.

But again it is not sold in Phuket.

So if you know a place where i can buy this online and / or they can deliver to Phuket i would be very grateful. :o

Hi Merijn,

I don't fancy your idea about putting the electric dehumidifier inside a Tuperware box. The disposable drying box seems a better and cheaper solution.

Regarding the drying cabinet, have you already made any contact with either Leo-lab or APS companies? I believe they can send their merchandise to you, it's not a big burden now.

I tried but i can't find contact info which is working ( no e-mail or website ) on those two company's.

Why is a tupperware style box not suitable for drying ? i believe the disposable drying box is almost the same but with a dehumifier build in.
