New dictionary introduced in restive South

BANGKOK, July 21 (TNA) - The Education Minister introduced a Thai- Pattani Malay, Pattani Malay- Thai dictionary in Thailand's three southern border provinces, with the aim of improving communication between Thai Buddhists and Thai Muslims.

Education Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat presided over the event to introduce the Thai-Pattani Malay and Pattani Malay-Thai dictionary.

He said publication would be useful for local residents in the three southern border provinces of Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat who did not speak the Pattani Malay language widely spoken by Muslim people there. It would support better communication and education in the violence plagued provinces.

Worawit Baru, head of the researchers who composed the dictionary, from Prince of Songkhla University, Pattani Campus, said ten specialists spent two years compiling dictionary’s content.

3,000 copies of the dictionary with CDs, part of strategies to tackle the violence in the deep south peacefully, will be distributed to government offices, schools and libraries. (TNA)

Any ideas where I might be able to buy this dictionary? I have a strong academic interest in Yawi and this looks to be a very useful resource.
