A very un-scientific poll if you don't mind.

As a regular shopper at Tops (silom) and Foodland for meat, cheese (Suk Soi 5), I popped in to Villa near 33 on the weekend to do my weekly shopping.

Is it just me, or is Villa noticably more expensive overall compared to Foodland or Tops? I know that items will vary from store to store (some having loss-leaders) but my general impression is that Villa is much more expensive on average.

I don't generally pay too close attention to my bill and don't care if it's a few hundred baht either way, but everytime I go into a Villa (for the same kind of items I buy elsewhere) it seams like it's noticably higher.

Anyone else feel the same?

The yellow colored Tops LOOKS CHEAP (very old crapp_y places) yet they are very expensive; unless you have the so called "discount" card (rewards card) which then makes it the same price as Paragon. Duh!?

Paragon LOOKS expensive but in my experience, it's not really pricey if you know which items you should get from there, and which items are on sale.

Foodland has the best priced (local) beef among the mainstream supermarkets.

Villa has a wide variety of imported stuff, but I've never compared their prices.

Villa will always be more expensive than Tops, Foodland or Home Fresh Mart (in Paragon, Emporium, and all of The Malls) purely based on volume. I would recommend using Villa only when you have to buy product you can't get anywhere else.

Example - Crystal Lite (no longer available, sigh) was about 140 baht in either Foodland or HFM. At Villa it was 210.
