my wife has been offered 1000b for her vote :o

just imagine the possibilities.

there are approximately 50,000 Thai residents on Samui.

about 30% are kids ... leaving about 35,000 eligible voters.

so if you pay each one 1000 baht its sums up to 35,000,000 baht. about 1,000,000 usd.

sound like a good investment for some one interested in being the new mayor and controlling the ta Saban.

off course as this is illegal... no one will do this......!!!

I am shocked to think you might suggest this. :o

You are quite the mathman highdiver. 35 million baht to become the mayor.

So the estimated 35 000 voters all give their vote for 1000 baht? All of them are in that much need of money?

You have quite high thoughts of Thailand, Thais, and the whole Thai-system. Surprised you even want to live here. You must have a nice crowd of thais around you and be dealing with top of the tops to get this attitude.

Kind of saying "all muslims are bad" and then move to saudiarabia. Or "i hate beer" and move to Ireland!

The mayor is going to be the one with the biggest family on Samui.

Nothing to do with buying votes.

Good for you.

I am sure this practice would never happen anyway. :o

Mattias,

Why are you giving Highdiver a hard time for something he openly says he doesn't condone.

Maybe it slipped your attention but part of the current problems in BKK are due to vote buying. How do you think PPP and Thai Rak Thai won the elections? Are you living on the moon? Unfortunately vote buying is common practice in Thailand, no need to stick your head in the sand.

Knowing this and naming it doesn't mean you need to have 'high thoughts' of Thailand and Thais. Comparing apples with pears imho.

Mattias and Concerned its amazing you have failed to understand sarcasm... maybe those long boozy afternoons at the bar has clouded your ability to see the remaining posts. :o

so for the record once again....my post was in context with the 2 posts above it that were debating the "election bonuses"

it was intended to "point in a humor and sarcasm that vote buying of 1 million USD can potentially overwhelmingly win the election.

it was not in any way a directive to do so and i have "as pointed out by other members" have openly said that i n no way have recommended or supported this type of conduct.

so please read the posts and try and understand them before you make accusations.

As for high thoughts ... i do have very high thoughts of Thailand and that why I went through the whole process of becoming a citizen. are you???

Ha Ha! Au contraire! It is you that did not understand that I was winding you up. Which is not difficult to do! Be amazed no longer! Ps. I don't drink.

I just asked my girlfriend, and 2 other of my staff that I convinced earlier this year to register here in Samui to help enable this process, about the vote buying, to be told that they can't vote in these local elections until they had been registered for more than 1 year. :o

I dont make accusations at all. You are the one doing that (btw, long boozy afternoons, not that i understand how it ever came in this topic, i can´t even remember the last time i had the plesure of ). :o

My comment was just on your low thoughts about Thais. I am perfectly farmiliar with what is going on. It´s not suggested by you. I know that.

But you where saying that all the persons that have a vote on samui would sell it for 1000 baht. That means your oppinion is that all thais are low paid and dont care about politics. The whole thaipopulation on koh samui is underpaid thais that will sell their vote and anyone with a million us can be the mayor.

I bet you did not tell them your inner thoughts about the country and it´s citizents when you went trough the whole trouble of becoming one. And that´s just a guess, no accusation.

But you where saying that all the persons that have a vote on samui would sell it for 1000 baht.

My Wife only got 200 up here in Isaan. Maybe she should move back to Samui. :o

Yeah. Or at least she should get a new husband.
