My local pump now also switched from 95 benzene to 95 gasohol. Which pumps currently still offer reg 95 benzene in Pattaya?

I take it you mean petrol or gasoline, not benzene? Try Shell or Caltex, I believe they all still offer 95 regular, but perhaps on just one pump, so check carefully before filling up (yellow colour usually regular, blue colour often gasohol). Good luck!

95 Petrol, or gasoline depending on where you come from is Benzene. In Thailand, there is diesal, Benzene, or gasahol. The OP is correct.

Even the colors are not always correct. The pimp I ususally went to had the yellow sign for regular 95, but yesterday they said that they changed to Gasohol. it is a small PTT station. Unfortunately the Caltex station close to me closed down several months ago. Shell - as far as I know, does not offer regular 95 anymore. Gotta have to look up another Caltex in Pattaya then.

Thanks

Sometimes I wonder why I bother...

Benzene is NOT the same as petrol, this from Wikipedia, try define:benzene on Google and hopefully you will see the light.

"Benzene, or benzol, is an organic chemical compound and a known carcinogen with the molecular formula C6H6. It is sometimes abbreviated Ph–H. Benzene is a colorless and highly flammable liquid with a sweet smell and a relatively high melting point. Because it is a known carcinogen, its use as an additive in gasoline is now limited, but it is an important industrial solvent and precursor in the production of drugs, plastics, synthetic rubber, and dyes. Benzene is a natural constituent of crude oil, and may be synthesized from other compounds present in petroleum. Benzene is an aromatic hydrocarbon and the second [n]-annulene ([6]-annulene), a cyclic hydrocarbon with a continuous pi bond."

As for the colour coding, I did use the words "usually" and "often", not "always". And I do fill 95 all the time, it is available if you care to look, but it is getting less easy to find.

Edit: I know that petrol is called benzine (sp) in Thailand, it is called bensin where I come from, but that is still NOT the same.

The MP gas station toward the Sukhm' end of Thresspit (sp?) has 'normal' 95 & 91, well it did on Saturday when we went to the beach - the PTT place next door has gasohol a few Baht cheaper :-) {yes - I drove into the wrong one first time round}

Benzina Italian for 'Petrol'

Benzine Dutch for 'Petrol'

Gasolina Spanish and Portugese for 'Petrol'

I can guess that the OP is not "English" and used the word he is familar with to communicate his meaning. I'm sure he meant no personal attack of your sense of correct use of wordy phrase which is deep joy to the eardroves. We wonder why you bothered as well, but it's probably 'your fault' and could have been avoided. :D

Dear OP, I believe you will find that 95 (without alcohol added) is being phased out by the end of this year - so fewer places will sell it.

Hi guys, interesting discussion. I used benzene, as the Thais at the pumps understand this as 95 octane fuel without 10 % bio fuel added. So to them, at least at my local pump, "benzene" is regular fuel and "gasohol" is the one with 10 % biofuel added.

No need for a scientific discussion though :o

PS: will check out the MP station!

Regrettably there is always some smart Alec who wishes to show off his superior knowledge to the detriment of a useful thread. The last station I was aware of which had the 95 octane (not gasohol) was the Shell station on Pattaya Tai although I'm not sure if even they have it any more. I now use 91 (not gasohol) in my bike with no apparent ill effects.

The only two stations that still had 95 not gasahol was the shell and caltex just north of Pattaya Nua ( North Pattaya Road) on Sukhumvit in the Northbound lanes. I now have moved to Korat two months ago, and up here 95 has completely disappeared. I now use 91 in my motor bike.

Also my bike has the ok of the manufacturer to use up to 10 % Biofuel 95, I am not really convinced. Last time I filled up 2/3 of the tank with 91 reg. No problem so far, I think I will opt for a 2/3 mix 95 gasohol / 91 reg from now on. Checked some pumps yesterday and indeed it seems like 95 reg disappeared now :-(

Cheers
