December 2, 200421 yr You know, all this new modern music sorta leaves me flat.Give me a good Richard Wagner epic like "Tristan und Isolde" cranked up about 95db to drive the neighbors crazy! Actually, after a hard day's work, nothing beats coming home and listening to perhaps a good rendition of the "Horst Wessel" Song or maybe relaxing to some John Phillip Sousa. Now that's some music, boys! Boon, I don't think one has to exclude the other. Keeping your mind and ears open and becoming touched in some way by what you hear is all that counts. GREAT initiative igotworms. I really need to find some new good music. I have been diving deeper into Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young lately, speaking of becoming middle-aged... Also just borrowed a George Benson album off of my neighbour. Pretty technical and jazzy, but some of the songs are very beautiful despite the near-masturbation style guitars. Have you heard of the Swedish band Dungen? They just came out with a new CD, Ta Det Lugnt , that got great reviews. I have yet to check them out. Here's the review. Dungen Review If you like Neil Young and friends, or quiet, acoustic folk music check out the band, Iron & Wine. He has two great albums that came out in 2003 and 2004 respectively: The Creek that Drank the Cradle and Our Endless Numbered Days. Here are those reviews: The Creek Our Endless You had me fooled with 'Dungen' there. You could have let the link point me to somewhere else but Microsoft though... Update: Turns out this is a real band after all... but the link is not. Not so new, but very, very good Swedish indie music is made by the band Bob Hund. Doktor Kosmos are also great (especially their lyrics). Most of you won't appreciate Swedish lyrics though. Not quite as sexy as French or Brazilian Portuguese...
December 3, 200421 yr Author Sorry about that Meatball...not sure how that link got messed up. Probably the squirrels living in my comp. Here's the link: Dungen review
December 7, 200421 yr Would at least like to try and bring the horse to water here.... If you got a decent sized 'net connection & BitTorrent, try downloading the mix on this page: http://mixes.dfx.at/details.php?id=11 You'll have to create a login account etc., but IMHO it's well worth it. As a bit of a preemptive strike against any claims that it's all talentless noise, I've been studying music up until I moved to Bangkok (Grade 7 practical piano & theory). In my opinion, there's more creativity in this single hour than I hear in a month worth of listening to any other genre, but I guess that's still personal opinion. Well worth the download anyhow.
December 7, 200421 yr Got to put in a recommendation to a band just making it onto the OZ music scene called 'Dallas Crane'. Very excellent music, their latest self titled album is fantastic.
December 11, 200421 yr Author I got word from Meadish that he enjoyed The Arcade Fire album, Funeral. Anyone else give it a try?
