Wife's Birthday

Featured Replies

We were having a talk the other day about birthdays and I found out my wife was actually born on the 5th of December not the 6th as is on all her documentation. The reason, her Father delayed the registration, he felt that it wasn't proper for a woman to celebrate a birthday on the same day as HRH.

I was wondering is this one father's opinion or is it some sort of custom?

Among the older generation it would be a natural consideration. As far as an active custom - can't say.

Some traditions die hard like with my wife's family - not all were aware of her married to a farang. Until the day he passed on, her grandfather was not told.

Mai pen rai... :o

In days past that was often ( not always ) in His Majesty's honour ( the Thai public holiday is on the 6th this year Bronc )

Seems my wife falls into the same bracket, although I am told the registrar insisted on registering the 6th, not the 5th.

Still, thanks for the reminder. Read this thread at least three times, and came back to it thinking I had missed something before it dawned on me I was trying very hard to forget her birthday!!

ThaiVisa comes to the rescue and saves lives yet again.

hi'

my birthday is on the 5th, I have always been told it was a kind of goodluck,

I have spent quite a few of my birthday in LOS and it has always been the best I ever had ... everybody partying everywhere, lights and fireworks .. great!

I never heard that some birthdates had been moved because of this special day, which is father-day too.

in fact I remember to have a nice dinner and the band there played a "happy birthday" song, and everybody who had his/her birthday party stood up for a big cheering :o, I do remember to see some ladies too.

and it is a real nice day to go out, it's party but quiet and tradition ...

francois

but HRH is on the 5th Pat

Correct Squire. The Thai holiday is on the 6th. And for God's sake get it right. The King and Queen are Majesties. That is the King is HIS MAJESTY. His children are Highnesses.
