You don't say what passport you hold, but chances are you need a visa. Suspect you are going to have to go to Bangkok to get it. You can also fly into HK first and get one there in a day.

i have a uk passport, hong kong first is an option ( as im going just over the border ) if i will save time ?. thanks

We used these people several years ago. They will pickup deliver passport from most hotels in downtown.

your best bet as a UK passport holder is to go to HK for which you dont need a visa, then go to any China Travel Service offices and as previously stated you can get your China Visa within the day. If you are going to Shenzhen then simply take the KCR train from Kowloon to Lo Wu and hey presto your laughing. But be aware, the border closes at 11pm I think

You will need a visa. The cost for a visa for UK and US is differnet then then other nationalities. I recieved mine from the chinese embassy in Bangkok 2 weeks ago and the cost was 5570 baht other nationalities only pay 1000 baht. Be sure to have a copy of your ticket and a paid hotel reservation.
