Tabian

My tabian has failed to appear again - and is now due next year.

This means that my Kings birthday ride down to Ko Chang to see my mates has been put on hold as I have been told its not worth the risk of riding with no plates.

The bike is insured but the tabian is being made.

What are the real risks - some people have told me it will cost a 200 bhat in the pocket fine

others have said it will be confiscated from me and I will never see my bike again.

Any ideas?

I would carry the receipt for the purchase of the bike and simply point out that plates have not arrived.

It should not be your problem that the Road Transport Dept is notoriously ineffiecient, and loosing revenue because of it.

If you haven't noticed the fee for taxing your vehicle starts from the day you get the plates, not when you bought the vehicle.

I hate to think how much revenue they loose per year.

Correct me if I am wrong but with a car the fine only applies during darkness.

If you have all the receipts with you then I would go

A car is different, as it will have temporary Red Plates (Tabian Dang).

With these you are technically limited to daylight hours,

and not more than 100km from home.

Mind you I remember seeing a car with Thai red plates in Malaysia, a long way from home.
