Best way to do this

Recommended Posts

Need some advice please. We have bought a house in Samui and my wife [brit] moves permanently there in December. Had to form a company for the land, of which we have a 38 percent holding with 5 Thais owning the rest. Only mention this in case it affects visa applications.  I won't be retiring there for another 2 years [i'm 50 at the moment] but will holiday there using 30 day tourist visa's-no problem for me.

The problem is for my wife. As far as I can make out, the best way for her is to have a 60 day visa initially, extend it by 30 days then travel down to Malaysia for a renewal. Can she get another 60 day visa there? then an extra 30 days on Samui. Is this the only way ahead for her for the next 2 years 'till I join her? Could she use the fact that she is a "company director" -don't laugh- help in any way.

Appreciate any help and have to say we really enjoy your forum, as Rabbie Burns said-there's nowt as funny as folk. Thanks. Pete.

Pete,

Go to the Top of this page

Click on:

HOME - Go to Main Site - Thaivisa.com

Click on Non-Immigrant Visa at top of second pge

Scroll down the third page and look for Retirement

Visa in the Yellow Box on the Left.

You might find the easiest way to solve your Wife's

problem is for you to obtain a Retirement Visa for

you and her now.

You say you are not planning to retire in Thailand,

yourself for 2 years - so something you should bear

in mind is that if you do get a Retirement visa its

annual renewal date will be the date of your first

arrival on your O-A Visa and you would need to be

in Thailand PERSONALLY prior to that date for its

annual renewal.

You MUST get a Re-Entry Permit before leaving the

Kingom which you can do at any time.

The Re-Entry Permit expires on the same day as your Retirement Extension

Seriously tho'  what is this retirement visa?

Don't want to sound too harsh but if you don't know what this is exactly how did you expect to live here? ???

As for the 'company' I would consider that a 'very' gray area and possibly illegal if it does not engage in a viable business; despite what some may have us believe.

Be careful.

You may also try for a type-o visa, perhaps.

What most people do ther is give their visa to one of the travel agencies that send it to Malaysia and get it stamped for a fee.  a reliable one is the one in the main intersection in Lamai across from the supermarket, the one with the electric doors that slide open.  (Lamai travel?) it is air conditioned.  This may be illegal, so i can't say that i've ever done it.

Also, if you haven't checked this stuff out before now - you are definitely in the danger zone of having your money and house stolen, or worse.

Read every entry on this board, and watch out for hucksters - thai and falang!

Petesar,

Regards land ownership, just a gentle reminder that the Land

registration document can be pawned for instant cash.

Maybe your 5 Thai colleagues could entrust this to you

in good faith. Speaking from experience you just don't

know who you will be able to trust in the future; friends

or family.??  Take care and good luck.
