I am British aged 38 and can apply for a Visa from the Hull embassy in the UK.

I want to come to Thailand to stay for a while, as a base. I will be conducting business outside Thailand. I will be paid from outside Thailand and to a country outside Thailand. I may answer the odd email in Thailand, or read something relevant to work, or write a report. But that's all.

I will of course spend money inside Thailand (rent, food, beer, travel).

I am not technically a tourist and don't want a tourist visa.

I am aware that "technically" it could be considered that I am "working" in Thailand but I will not be attempting to obtain a work permit because my circumstances would not allow it anyway. I want to do the most appropriate and reasonable thing in the circumstances.

I intend to apply for a Non-Immigrant Multiple entry 12 month visa from Hull.

I would be grateful for suggestions on the following:

1) What is the simplest category of Non-Imm visa I could obtain in these circumstances?

2) What evidence do I need for the application?

3) What problems may I encounter at any stage in which case are there alternative options I should consider?

Thanks!!!

Apply for a muntiple entry non immigrant O visa. Tell them that you will be using Thailand for a home base for working outside the country.

Hull is a good choice reports are that they are very easy to work with.

Here is link to hull website: http://www.thaiconsul-uk.com/visas1.asp

You can download forms and get other information there.

Thanks for the response. This confirms my thinking. Any thoughts as to whether I need to supply a covering letter or supporting information or shall I just keep it simple and write "Using Thailand for a home base while working outside the country" under 'purpose of stay'? Anyone know if this is generally acceptable?

Why don't you give Hull a call and talk to them. I understand they can be very helpfull.

Otherwise I would write a short cover letter.

No need to go into details. On the application form, in the field “Purpose of visit”, just write “visit friends”. The consul is Hull is uncomplicated and routinely grants the multiple-entry non-O visa for this purpose.

As to a covering letter it is not really necessary but I myself have the habit of adding a letter listing the attachments, mostly for my own record, asking them kindly to issue me the visa applied for and advising them to contact me by phone or email if they should have any questions.

Many thanks for the advice. I'm assuming that there are no checks made on whether I am "visiting friends" or not. I guess its just having the visa that matters.

No. There are no checks. They just issue as standard.
