Moonrakers Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 League teams in it now then, playing Saturday. Swindon have a tricky little draw away to Histon, going well in the conference and managed by the long ball specialist John Beck (remember when he managed Cambridge?........ WOoooooosh). So real potential for a right cock-up from us. Would have been delighted if we had drawn Oxford Utd., and what a shame that Wimbledon AFC didn't get drawn against MK Dons. Here's hoping it may happen in the next round though. How is your team shaping up for the cup this season then?
StevieH Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 was john beck cambridge manager back when dion dublin played for them and they had a good cup run one year? histon's a lovely little place, and a big banana skin for swindon.
Moonrakers Posted November 4, 2008 Author Posted November 4, 2008 I think that he was manager then yes, he almost even got Cambridge to the top flight by playing hoof-ball. A big banana skin indeed.
technocracy Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 John Beck! Now there's a blast from the past I didn't realise he was still in the game . . his Cambridge and Preston sides were something to behold - particular on the old plastic pitch! Aerial bombardment with an ultra bouncy pitch! And people say the we (Stoke City) are a direct football team - we are positively Ajax of the 70s compared to his Cambridge or Preston teams! I have to say I am looking forward to the FA Cup 3rd round this year, I wonder if our now Premiership status will in some way improve our absolutely diabolical FA performances? I believe we have one of the worst FA Cup records of ALL league teams - so if we are beat by a lower league team will come as no suprise to us!!!

If you, you may do ok.

Beck's on the coaching staff.
Macclad Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 My team Macclesfield Town are away to non league Harlow in the First Round. We had a dreadful start to the season losing the first four league matches conceding 14 goals and scoring none. After that we won four out of the next five but have recently lost four out of the last five ! In the Carling Cup we beat Blackpool 2-0 and held West Ham away 1-1 in normal time, only to lose in extra time. So you never know what Macc team will turn up but there are usually plenty of goals. So it could either be Harlow 4 Macc 1 or Harlow 1 Macc 4.......watch it be a dreary 0-0 now !
MSingh Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 I went to Moss Rose once, about 6 ( maybe 7 or 8 ?? ) years ago, on a Sunday & i think we won 2 or 3-0 with Defoe & Joe Cole scoring for us in an FA Cup 3rd Round Game i think it was, dems were the days.. Anyway, will Star be showing FA Cup Game sat this stage of the Competition yet does anyone know ??
delboy Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 Anyway, will Star be showing FA Cup Game sat this stage of the Competition yet does anyone know ?? Neither Star nor ESPN will be covering the FA Cup this season, or for the next few seasons either, in Thailand. True Sports doesn't appear to be showing the Leeds tie this weekend, but maybe will start coverage when the big boys appear in January, we have to wait and see.
mrbojangles Posted November 6, 2008 Posted November 6, 2008 The Mighty Dale have a tough draw at Barnet. But i think they should make it through to the last eight........at least !!

Yeah,I was at that match but standing at the opposite end .You won 3-0.Macc did well in the first half but class told in the end. You had Defoe,Joe Cole,Carrick,James,Sinclair,Winterburn etc.You were a good Premiership team then with up and coming stars in the squad. Pity it all broke up.Was that when Roeder was manager ?

grim Posted November 8, 2008 Posted November 8, 2008 I'm excited about watching AFC Wimbledon taking on Wycombe in glorious technicolour from Thailand. They are not my team but I used to live in Wimbledon. I think most football fans have a softspot for the club given its background and the great strides it is making. Go on The Dons!

Macclad Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 Quite a few upsets yesterday but, fortunately,Macclesfield Town managed to avoid one by winning at Harlow 2-0. Looking forward to the second round draw.....hopefully a home derby match against either Altrincham,Stockport,Rochdale or Curzon Ashton.

thecatman Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 I'm paying particular interest in the early rounds this year as my cousin's hubby plays for my local team, Leiston Town, the smallest club left in the competition.
Mossfinn Posted November 9, 2008 Posted November 9, 2008 Personally, I wouldn't like to be able to say I feel sorry for you...I'm an Oxford fan. :D Couldn't happen to a nicer team. Moss

toasted Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 The one side is open to allow fast egress to Swindon fans after they lose - you may have noticed that the gap is on the A420 side of the stadium.

toasted Posted November 19, 2008 Posted November 19, 2008 Oxford are through to face Torquay in the next round. Should be a tight affair after the 1-1 draw in the corresponding league fixture earlier in the season. I just wish we'd been drawn against Swindon. Oh well, maybe in the next round.
