Hello people,

True/TA did it this time really bad, I posted this topic before. But then it quickly turned to True only blocks Porn and improper/obscene websites.

So I started to collect “normal” websites that True/TA is blocking…..

This is the list….

http://www.searchfeed.com (this is a kid’s friendly search engine)

http://sweater.my-age.com (this is a Thai sweater manufacturer, surely no obscene stuff)

http://wholesaler.yoll.net (this is a portal for a Thai jeans manufacturer)

This websites all show “Access Denied (policy_denied)

Your system was configured to deny access to this URL.Because this url was and improper/obscene website or your package is localnet

For assistance, contact your network support team.”

Or some other network error………..

Don’t get me wrong, if True/TA blocks porn or obscene websites I do not give a s.h.i.t……

With kind regards,

Richard

hi,

I use jamine internet, last month I had this problem :

I had a work to do for a customer located in USA it's a well know musical shop, and one of the biggest buyer of script in RAC ....access denied ... impossible to go to the FTP and to have the HTTP

Forbidden

You were denied access because of, at least, one of the following reasons:

* this page is in blacklist. (For more information, please refer to http://www.cattelecom.net/watch-dog/)

* this page is hosting outside domestic region. Your account is permitted to access only in demestic region. (Type: Domestic-ONLY)

What a shame to explain that to thebuyer, and also to avoid to be considered as a lazy coder. The funny thing is I had explain I live in thailand, this is a royal thai law (notice the word royal), and I have to explain that maybe 15 times a day .... the result was a temporary ban of RAC with the same window (I suppose the use of the soft that count /scan for some words).

RAC = www.rentacoder.com

now to make you smile, it's still possible to thnk the 3 websites are related to thai firms, and maybe they do some "unfair competition" to some people who are in the gvt or close to gvt, so .... but it's a joke.

I could also add to your list, as intellectual websites that show (at least a part) the real thailand :

www.ladyboy-ladyboy.com (was banned today , 1 day after I have renew my subscrition damnit lol)

www.asianshemale.com (still banned since many month)

www.ts-thailand.com

www.narak.com

sound like an 11th of november when we call for those who died during the WWI.

Yes it's porn site, but how the katoeys (about 25 % of the thai population) can survive without that?????????uhu

Well the first part of the post is serious, the second less.

regards

Hello Sting01,

Pornographic, obscene publications are not allowed by Thai law, if you into this type of business you surely in the wrong country.

But selling sweaters, jeans clothing or provided a “kids, family” friendly search engine is not, therefore it is really obscene to block websites and emails from this domains.

With kind regards,

Richard

I really don't know why they bother. My 7/11 sells plenty of pornography, legitimately as far as I can tell. I get all kinds of offers just walking home every evening (and I'm not remotely near a tourist area). And is it even possible to go to Pantip without being offered 'sexy movies' at least half a dozen times ? Nevermind Patpong either. It's just another face-saving load of <deleted>.

Hello Crushdepth,

Yes, I know what you mean I cannot walk around Phanthip without somebody coming up to me saying “you buy sexy movie”.

But then we not talking here about sex or sexy or worse, we talking here about websites that show pictures of plastic dolls that wear sweater which are not even sexy to the coldest Eskimo. (http://sweater.my-age.net)

But what about the jeans wholesaler, does this guy who blocks websites who works for whoever work for the Chinese government, and have a mission to block as much low-cost manufacturers as possible? With textile export quotas on “ready made garments” disappearing the end of this month you almost would belief it……

Or is it maybe it is kinky to the person who controls this “block” list and hi has a fetish for plastic doll wearing wool or acryl sweaters!!

Great work who ever is behind this, less then 3 months ago I was visiting a seminar of the Thai Export promotion saying that companies with not that much PR funds had to use free domain names to promote their products.

The Fateback.com (domain holder of my-age.net, yoll.net and several others) is one of the free web space providers who where mentioned by name to give excellent service.

With some search I found that at least 50 companies and numerous personal websites from descend Thai people are suffering because of this True/TA/ICT or whoever action.

………………….I can really not understand this move….

With kind regards,

Richard

I thought the same as crush depth - the amount of porn readily available in Thailand makes the comment ....

"Pornographic, obscene publications are not allowed by Thai law."

...a joke (on the part of the Govt, not the thread starter)

But worse still, you can hardly walk down many streets at night without being offered the real thing from the BGs. And there seems to be no attempt to forgo the sex tourist dollar.

The worrying thing is that this thread was an attempt to move the talk from porn to the legit websites that are blocked, but we have all jumped back on the porn topic again.

Can't think of anything to say about the legit sites that are blocked, except that nothing suprises me here, other than when something goes in a logical manner of course. For my part I have not yet come across a site that has been blocked that I wanted to visit. And since most of the sites that are blocked fill your computer with spyware or viruses I can't complain.

It is possible that they use a BOT to scan for websites to block, and so might well get it wrong at times. Have you thought about contacting the web site owners to tell them.

Have you thought about the lucky guy whose job it is to search the net for sites to block?? Hey, maybe he gets bored at times, or maybe has has a grudge against dolls.....

Yes, I was thinking that legit sites could easily be blocked by rules that either block the whole domain name in a shared setting, or a whole IP address range. The same thing can happen with over-zealous spam e-mail blocking. One school of thought is that it is better to block the "neighbors" too so that they apply pressure to clean up the neighborhood...

Also, there has been research at Thai universities into automatic "porn detection" software that is based on shapes and "flesh tone coverage" in images. Who knows whether they are using any such techniques now, and blocking sweater ads that reveal indecent amounts of mannequin skin! :o

One would have thought that they had better things to do with their time, than worrying about whether someone is looking at a pair of bristols. Of course it could be threat to national security!

Hello Everybody,

It is fixed ...........I just called them

-------------------

So what did they do, just unblock the sites you wanted ?

Hello Paukfr,

I called them and after a discussion about the Thai law, they told me they did not blocked the websites I was talking about.

But after about 15 minutes after the telephone call I was able to connect to most of the websites I was talking about.

So I don care who blocked the websites......but after my telephone call with ICT it was fixed.....

http://www.searchfeed.com is still blocked, but I don't care that much.....

Using True, and for about a week now, I haven't been able to access my email at www.mail.com. But I can through other carriers. Also the thesaurus at, http://dictionary.reference.com/, seems blocked too. The websites just... time out. I know these websites are still up because they are pingable.

Thesaurus works fine for me KSC Commercial Internet (now owned by True), did you really have to dredge up a 2004 thread for this?

Yesterday gmail and other googleish sites were extremely slow while other site including tv seemed normal; not a techie but can't help but guess that when the page is slow to open and I see that google analytics loading wording on the bottom left of the page, it has something to do with it. Sorry a bit off topic.

Also works fine for me on True.

Agree about the old thread. I really think this forum should have a feature autoclosing all threads not active for six months or so.

Good lord, there should be a warning about a thread from 2004!!

In fact, 7 year old threads should probably be summarily deleted from the internet forum. Things change quickly here and I can't really imagine anything from 7 years ago being relevant today. Particularly not in internet/technology.
