The parents are flying out next week from London Heathrow to BKK.

They are flying with Eva Air and have treated themselves to an early christmas present by flying Premium Laurel Class.

As they are normally cheap seat passengers what extra's can they look forward to??

I've had a look at Eva's website and it's quite basic.

I know there should be a check-in desk separate to economy passengers but does anyone know about the following:

What would their luggage allowance's be?

Is there a business class lounge they can use at Heathrow and Bangkok?

Will there bags be off loaded first?

Any fast-track at passport control?

Any other tips or treats that can be had?

If i don't pass on any info, they will queue up at check-in behind everyone else and go for a coffee in Starbucks!!

Many thanks in advance.

If you private message your email address, I can forward you an email that has what they sent me regarding baggage allowances and so on. I don't know about the Premium lounges though. I have always used the Thai Airways lounge, it's nice and has it's own check in area for Business and 1st class.

At LHR they use the SAS lounge. It's facing you as you walk out of the public lounge area onto the aircraft pier.

They should get fast track security and passport control at terminal 3. This is a big plus for me as there is usually a long line of people heading to the subcontinent who aren't used to airport security measures..

On arrival at BKK, I think they will just mix with the masses.

The check-in is separate and right at the front in terminal 3. There is only one for Premier. Dont go down the aisle where the Economy and Elite Check-in are. The check-ins dont open that early though, usually about 5pm, so you dont get as much time in the SAS lounge as you would like. Well I don't anyway! The SAS lounge has lots of nice nibbles, TV's, papers and internet. Oh it has showers as well - that is really nice after a long drive to the airport and just before getting on a long flight.

The fast track security is next to the 'normal' security entrance. its well marked, but you they may not notice it as it does not have a queue!!

On the plane the configuration 2-2-2 and obviously they can choose their seats online before they go.

The hold baggage was reduced to 30 Kg on my last trip and they were quite 'fussy' about it. They never used to stare at the scales for so long before the fuel price went so high. Hand luggage is 7 KG, but you can carry a computer separately as well. Before now I have had a lot more than 7KG in the carry-on, but as long as the bag looks quite small - they dont ever weigh it.

Their luggage will have a priority label on it, in BKK they actually seem to take notice of this when they load the hold so it is taken off first in LHR. Sadly the LHR baggage handlers don't seem to be able to read this slabel, so the luggage may just come out with the rest at BKK. Mine did last time, no big deal just a 20 minute wait.

They will be boarded first and should feel like VIP's for a day!

I hope they have a great trip.

EVA Air used to fly with a Boeing 777 to London. However, they recently changed to their old 747. I haven't flown on the 747 yet but I think it's still the old seats in there. Be careful.

When I flew Eva Air in 2007 (2006 as well I seem to recall), they had switched from the 747 to the 777. The 747 was the plane they had been using (I had flown on) from 2003 until 2006. On December 14th 2007 I think it was, they switched back to 747's. So in January 2008 I flew to london on their NEW 747. I have no idea if it was a refurbished 747, but it looked and felt new. The most important thing is that the seats in the 777 and 747 are exactly the same. Same design, same buttons etc... I did notice that the 747 I flew on in January 2008 and last month were both 'smaller' inside than the older 747's. They seemed the same size as the 777, less toilets than the old 747 and no Galley area you could easily walk around.

Still, thats progress I guess, it felt the same great service to me. My only 'gripe' about the seats in Premier is that they dont go 'flat' they have a slight slant, so you tend to slide down them when you are asleep. I strapped myself in really tight the last time and nearly choked myself! :o

Bottom line is that your parents will be in good hands and enjoy themselves.

I think the equipment refit is complete and its the same seats on 747 as 777. Probably the worst in comfort in terms of recline, but as good as any other airline otherwise. The toilet bags are very basic; toothbrush that disintegrates after 4 uses or so, but enough Colgate toothpaste to last, some hand cream, and some lotion. The best part of the deal, the slippers that come in handy for house guests, or vacations. I give my toilet bags to my cleaners and support staff. Depending upon the season, the little bags can be nice. All last year they were white soft boxes that can be used for jewellery, or in my case cufflinks or my disection instruments, so I kept one. The pillow and comforter is clean and both are comfy. There is also sufficient room to have a walk on board, and they should take 1 or 2 during the flight.

You can pre order your meals online a couple weeks of weeks in advance, so be sure to tell your folks that. The online menu is better than the limited selection onboard otherwise. Same for seats. Stay away from the seats closest to the lavatories and mid galleys otherwise the lights and noise will interrupt their sleep. Only EVA head honchos or Diamond status can book the bulkhead seats or so it seems since I can't get them ever and I'm gold level.

The food is adequate, but not overly impressive. If they need a drink to sleep they will have to be pushy because the booze disappears fast. FA's will make your parents feel special. They're pretty good with older people and are polite.

If your parents are connecting to a TG flight, EVA will tag the baggage to the final destination unlike some other airlines.

EVA gate location requires a long walk to immigration so warn the parents. Be sure to brief them to not talk to touts. Tell Mom to leave her manners at home until she exits the airport.

You've done your parents proud, I've travelled to Thailand on most Airlines, from Business to Economy. EVA is the best of the lot, the previous posts point out details, I hope you all have a great time......... :o

Many thanks for all the info.

A friend also mentioned not to forget, to turn left once on the plane instead of the usual right :o

The first couple of times I flew in business (first time was an upgrade on BA) I felt like an intruder and was constantly expecting to be sent to the back. I also didn't know how to behave and sat patiently waiting for drinks etc instead of asking for whatever I wanted. Was a great experience, marred only by some slag (also and upgrade) nicking my pillow!
