G'day,

The UBC/True guy came to install the dish today and to my disappointment, the STB has only composite and S-video outputs. I would have thought that in this day and age, there would be at least component outputs.

Is there a better tuner out there? Can I find a aftermarket one that works with the cable card?

Or do I need to go up to the True PVR to get the component outputs?

The quality (or lack of) of the video makes me wonder if changing the STB will make any difference. Any one that has gone through this route, I would really appreciate your thoughts.

Also, is there a way to turn off the Thai subtitles?

It is ironic that they are selling HDTVs everywhere and there is no HD content out there (I didn't see any PS3 or blue ray either)! I am in Chiang Mai by the way.

thanks

Matt

Wow, you have S-Video? Be happy you're not stuck with composite video like some of us. No S-Video on my STB.

Somebody mentioned that there is a sports channel available in HD, I think in the HDTV thread. Not sure as to how they manage it since I've never seen an STB with component, DVI, or HDMI outputs.

My cheapie Samart box (running as a second receiver off a card-splitter) has component and optical audio, I'm sure the more expensive ones have HDMI etc. :D

Makes sod all difference, UBC / True is such low bit rate :o

I use dreamboxes with a scart to component converter.. To be honest UBC's signal is so poor it really doesnt make much odds.. The problem is less the connection and more the compression.

Where I am from STB applies to any set top box not just cable ones ??
