I am sure this has been asked and answered here before, but I am confused about the types of visa's available and what the requirements are.

First some details then the question(s).

1) I am over 50. Currently on a retirement visa. Know the requirements for that one. Already renewed once.

2) Legally married to a Thai national wife since 2001.

3) We have a child with my Thai wife and Birth Certificate showing both of our names.

4) My wife has a child from a previous relationship. The child lives with us and I support him as well.

4) All income is from my investments. No retirement monthly income.

Given the current economic situation I want to take the least amount of money out of my investments as possible. Do not want to go back to my home country for the one year non-immigrant visa and do the 90 day border runs. I know how to do that one.

My questions I need help with:

1) For the married man visa does 400,000 baht in a Thai bank qualify or do you need to show income as well?

2) What about the supporting a Thai family and child visa I have heard about. I understand you don't have to show income or money in a Thai bank for that one.

3) Can both of the above now be done from Pattaya?

I know each one has its own hassles, but to keep and bring in money only when we need it is my primary concern until the global economy improves.

Thanks in advance for any clarifications. I will go to the Pattaya immigration office as well to try and find out, but that as we all know can be very a real pain.

The money in the bank is no longer an option for an extension beased on marriage. You now have to show an income of 40,000 a month. This is however a family income, so it can be your's, your wife's or the combined income.

For retirement the requirement is either 800,000 in a Thai bank for 3 months or 65,000 a month or a combination of both totaling 800,00. The income option needs to be certified by your embassy, if the income is from abroad. The embassy decides what they will accept ass proof of your income. In general, it doesn't matter tht the income is not 65,000 a month as long as it is the avarage income per month.

There is a provision for 12 month extensions to live with your Child if you are over 50. No money or income needed.

However.

Most offices do not like doing this and will put lots of obstacles in the way. Some have been successful mainly in Bangkok. It is a good idea to consult a lawyer such as forum sponsor Sunbelt.

The ruling is 7.17 (5) of the Police Order.

…4) All income is from my investments. No retirement monthly income…

There are several possibilities you can look at. The best for you would be the extension to live with Thai child, mentioned by LiteBeer. Start by talking to your local immigration office about it and see what they say.

You don’t say if your wife has an income. If she has, you can combine her income with your income from investment to arrive at a monthly average of 40,000 Baht for the marriage extension. Your income does not have to be pension, it can be any type of income.

A third possibility is to continue with the retirement extension but combine whatever income you have with money in the bank to arrive at a total of 800k.

Thanks Lite Beer. Owe you a Lite Beer if it works. Buy you one anyway.

The Police Order will help. At least they can't say there is no such thing.
