Thai Political Parties Dissolved

From nationmultimedia:

Democrats have dim chance to form govt

The Democrat Party has little chance to form a government, even if the three ruling parties are disbanded by the Constitution Court on Tuesday, according political analysts.

window.google_render_ad();

If the Constitution Court also disqualifies 109 party executive board of the three parties and disqualified Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat, the ruling parties still have much more than half of total MPs in the House to elect a new prime minister.

The total MPs reaches 447 even after 33 MPs are disbanded. The ruling coalition parties will have 283 MPs left, which is 59 seats more than half of total (224).

If the Democrat Party convinces other 5 ruling parties to switch camps and form a government, the Democrat led government will have only four seats more than half of total.

It is unlikely the five ruling parties would switch sides since the Democrat-led government would be too unstable.

Besides, the fact that the Chart Thai Party, Matchima Thipataya Party, Puea Pandin Party, Ruam Jai Thai Chart Pattana Paty, Pracharat Party have shown their intention to stick with the PPP, it is unlikely their allegiance would waver at this time.

Now you'll see the election with a brand new squeaky clean "PPP". (Run by Thaksin of course).

Did you think that they haven't been waiting for this?

The new party which is waiting in the wings (forgotten name) is headed up by someone who may just be the first lady PM in Thailand. She is Thaksins sister. Really!!

I think now we see the true face of the PAD. They clearly stated they would immediately leave the airport if the PPP and its allies were disbanded. Sondhi and Chamlong said that themselves on several occasions. This happened and they're not leaving.

Now, maybe all the more the PAD won't leave the airport.

Basic dynamics in negotiation.

The PPP's resignation (dissolution) could've been used as a "bargaining chip" to get PAD to leave airport, but now PAD got it for free and at no cost.

Now they can use their "airport card" to get some other big concession. Stay put they will...

Or, if it wasn't free and PAD indeed believes that the court verdict was a result of the PAD's powerful airport card, why will they give up the card now that they've seen how much power it wields?

Unluckily -- already since they started this mess -- the PAD so obviously have no plan what they really want. Then somebody could work towards that.

Their stated goal was that the government shall be dissolved. This has happened now.

One would assume that patience is wearing really thin on all sides who backed them, they seemingly never let this come to an end. They themselves do not want to be in power (really?), on the other hand they have nominated nobody. Maybe they just do like destruction for no other sake than destroying things...

i thought their stated aim initially was that somchai resign?

as with every revolutionary faction ever that reaches the top of the mountain, they then realise that they want more than they set out in the beginning. peace, freedom, justice, reasonably priced love and a hard-boiled egg. they've got parliament dissolved, next they'll insist on a PAD presence in any new government, irrespective of elections. and that southern, educated people's votes count double those of poor, northern people's. and that all saengthaws in chiang mai must be repainted yellow. spin the wheel. . .

Yeah, back to square one.

Unless, the 'interim-government' will do everything in its powers to get Thaksin back and lock him up!

Happened? Do you got it black on white? Maybe Thaksin is ruling the court to say PPP is disolved, so PAD leaves and he comes back to take the power with a regime?

You seriously expect them to pack up and leave the very instant the court made their ruling? You must be high!

At the very best, they will leave en-masse a few hours later, once the PAD leaders have gloated in their glory on stage and made a song and dance about it.

You cannot just expect them to start leaving straight away, with the grenade attacks against them, various shootings etc its not exactly safe for them.

There is also the small issue that its very possible for a new party to be formed (of the ex-PPP and other party members) and have enough seats in parliament to take control of the government, effectively putting us back i nthe very same position we are in now. So Far Thaksin's sister and his cousin are being touted as possible leaders of the PTP party (see, its even got a name already!)

So no, i very much doubt they will be leaving the airports until tonight at the earliest....

They just broadcast a PAD leader's speech that happened minutes after the PPP and its allies were dissolved, telling people not to leave the airport, and telling them to wait until a new government was elected.

So if the election doesn't go their way, they won't leave? What kind of democracy is this?

I can't give a link since it was live on CNN, but they did state that PAD might not leave until all members of the ex-government are removed and cannot form a new party. Furthermore, they also stated that it is being "rumored" that Chalerm is being considered to replace Somchai.

Also would you jump in a taxi with your yellow shirt on??

You got a whole bunch of pretty upset people...they are calling for re-enforcements to burn Bangkok down...

So if you did not like the "peaceful" PAD protest, you are really gona hate the PPP protest.

Chaovarat becomes caretaker PM

No-1 Deputy Prime Minister Chaovarat Chanweerakul will become caretaker prime minister pending a meeting of the caretaker Cabinet, former PM's Office Ministers Sukhumpong Ngonkham said Tuesday.

He said the caretaker Cabinet would make a former decision as to who should be caretaker prime minister replacing disqualified prime minister Somchai Wongsawat.
