Had some clients , from a boat do the same run yesterday...same story 15 days....this is ridiculous , what are they trying to do ? scare away what little tourism we have....?

I went to phuket immigration and was told the same thing as of yesterday any border crossing will give only 15 days tourist stamp..any airport will give 30 days and those with visas things are still the same as of today....geez i might set up camp in ranong....

My husband is at Mae Sai at the moment and can only get 15 days along with everyone else - he was told by Chiang Mai immigration to go there as his visa ran out and to get the 30 days - so it looks like they didn't know about it either. Not sure what hope we have if Thai Immigration didn't know about it either. Mae Sai said it has come into force today.

So if you've got a Multi-entry VISA in your passport then you still get the 90 days/60 days or whatever it states, its only people without VISA's at Border Crossings that get 15days????

Otherwords, a visa on arrival at a land border crossing will only give you 15 days, airports 30 days, other VISA holders >>>> as per usual???

My husband had a year visa (Non-Imm O) as a parent of a child studying in Thailand and we were going to change it over to be with mine as I have a work permit, Chiang Mai Imm told us that as his visa had nearly run out he needed 21 days on it change it over in Bangkok, so he should get the 30 days in Mae Sai. So he did but still only got the 15 days even though he had a year visa, so presumerably this will apply to everyone.

Makes absolutely no sense to me.....if this is the case anyone with a MULTI-ENTRY Non-Immigrant 'O' visa can only get what he or she pays for by leaving thailand by air, ie; at one of the countries airports??

I've got a couple of travel agents shops in the south which book visa runs to Ranong. Just spoke to my staff and they confirm anyone going to Ranong are getting 15 days stamps if they don't hold a current visa. Those with a visa are getting the normal 90 days etc. At this time I can only confirm the situation with regards to Ranong border crossing.

No. If this is true then it applies to Visa Exempt Entries only .

resria could have gone to any consulate and got a Tourist or Non O Visa.

I agree with what your saying LiteBeer, but if you read what resria said, her husband already had a (multi entry?) o visa (1 year) and it was still current by 21 days and he crossed the Mai Sai border & only got 15 days when he came back in. Perhaps resria can confirm all of this, if it is the case, whats the chance someone at Mai Sai has got it wrong OR is something changing here were Multi Non Immigrant O visas need to leave thailand via an air-route to get their entitlement. Ive been looking on the Immigration site but my thai reading skills are very poor....and im home alone

There is still no translation, leading to a lot of questions. We also don't know if it applies to people who enter on a visa exempt entry under a bilateral agreement.

We are working with a translation, and when we have it double-checked it we will post it. Hopefully later this afternoon.

To change a Visa at Immigration you need to have at least 21 days remaining on your permission to stay.

As he had less than that Immigration told him to do a border run and get 30 days to enable him to do this. Clearly Immigration did not know that the rules had been changed to 15 days today.

He did not have a Non O Visa. He had a 12 month extension of stay that had almost expired. I would not have thought that the 21 days would have come into play. So something is a bit wrong.

Agree with Lite Beer, something is wrong in the story. The man was on an extension of stay as a dependend of his child and wanted to change that as dependend of his wife. So why the need for 21 days?

OK then Lite Beer, I was suspecting that something was wrong with the story.....I'm far from any type of expert in these matters....I just try to keep up with the stuff that might affect me. One would assume at this time, a person with a Multiple NON IMMIGRANT O visa who crossed a land border would still be entitled to the normal conditions of that visa. The 15days must be for Visa on Arrival people at land border crossing.....seems thailand is tightening the belt at a time they might need to loosen it abit.

Sorry. Visa Exempt Entry. Yes for a Non Imm O Visa there should be no change.

This is the first day that this new rule appears to be active. Let's wait and see what happens.

My husband went to Mae Sai with a 7 day extension on his non o in order to get the 30 days so that we could then change the type of visa he had (a non O as a parent to a non O as a spouse) the parent one you have to show 500,000 baht so I guess his visa had finished ? or extended? anyway he only got 15 days, not much good to us. Boo

It sounds like a trip to Vientiane or another consulate for another non-o or a tourist visa.

Or go back to immigration and try again showing them the 15 day entry.

15 days for Visa Exempt is now a general rule at land crossings and is discussed here.
