Ds-230 Usa Visa Police Certificate

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I need advice on filling out a DS-230 for my wife. I am a legal permanent resident in the US and we survived the 5 year wait for such a case - now my wife can get a visa, all I have to do is fill out the DS-230. I think it's the same document that all immigrants need to fill out. I need

- Certified Copies of Passport, Birth cert and some other things. Question: Where can I get these "certified" in Thailand?. I can't really send the original of her passport, knowing the NVC these guys probably keep it for a year.

- Translation of everything. Again - where can I "certify"? Is it enough to use a translator service?

- Police Records - again, where to get? I want to avoid going to BKK if at all possible, is there any way an attorney or somebody else could pick this up for her? Does it really take 3 weeks? We lived in Germany in 2003/2004 - do I need a police certificate from there? I wouldn't know how to get it...

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I'd be happy to pay someone to run errands, actually - I don't really need a whole package from a law firm because I have come this far all on my own (though in hindsight, had I known how much effort this is, I'd much rather have paid somebody to do it all).

When we started this process in 2003 we were living in Austria, so we did the application in the U.S. Consulate in Vienna. I am kind of hoping we can get the interview and whatever else the consulate has to do there even though my wife has since moved back to Thailand and I am in Thailand or the USA (I am required to reside there for part of the year for my permanent resident status). The reason is that the US Consulate in Austria is really friendly and helpful whereas the one in BKK is rather the opposite. I will fly to another continent for friendly service!
