German Bureaucrazy: > 100,000 Baht For Certificate?

Featured Replies

This is my 2nd marriage and the wedding was in May.

Fool I am, I told the home town that I am married without ever showing any paperwork to corroborate this. Still, someone entered it online based on hearsay and now, the steps required to verify the divorce would cost more than THB 100,000.

Divorce: Superior Court in California, with the divorce being certified by the court. But this certification needs an Apostille by the Secretary of state. Then the whole works needs to be translated and certified yet again etc.

There is a double standard. It's sufficient to say something or to tick a box. But when it comes to a divorce, why not ask for a sworn statement? Bigamy is a crime, who wants to do time for such a silly thing?!

The court's documents are genuine and I wonder if there was ever a case where such documents were simply forged.

[/b This is so typical for Germany. Sticklers, more than 5 million civil servants. build a garage 1 inch too high and it gets torn down. I witnessed this as a child when a neighbor lost about then 20,000 Marks.

Q: has anyone dealt with this problem?

I pity Thai companies dealing with the German bureaucracy!
