I am an American that received a multiple entry retirement visa last February 2008 and then had to leave back to the states due to an illness in the family. Have not been in Thailand for the rest of 2008, and coming back to Thailand next month January 2009. My questions is, what steps do I have to take to renew my visa? Will I have difficulty with the renewal process? Advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

If you are talking about a Multi Entry Non O-A Visa that you acquired in the USA. You should be able to come back with out doing anything and get another 12 months.

Are you sure it was O-A and Multi Entry.

What is the expiry/enter before date written on it?

You just have to enter before the date your visa expires and you get permission to stay in Thailand for 90 days. (Your visa says something like valid till).

Once in Thailand you can ask for an extension of stay for one year if you meet one of the following criteria:

have an income of 65,000 baht a month

have 800,000 at a Thai bank account for 2 months prior to applying for the extension

have a combination of 65,000 a month and money in the bank totaling 800,000.

Once you have an extension you have to get a re-entry permit if you want to leave the country and keep your permission to stay alive.

I received the retirement Visa in Thailand with a one year re-entry permit. The expiry date is Feb. 17, 2009

I had an O visa from thai immigrations from Nov. 2007 until Feb 2008 when I received my Retirement Visa in Feb 2008. It is stamped Retirement.

Ok. Forget my reply above.

You do not have a Retirement Visa. You have a 12 month extension of your permission to stay.

Mario gave you the correct answer in post no.3 :o

When returning to Thailand just fill in the number of your re-entry permit on your arrival card. That's all.

How do I extend for another year when it expires in Feb2009?

Apply at Immigration in Thailand. This is the Police Order. You need 2.22

You can apply for an extension in the last 30 days of your permission to stay. Don't wait until the last day. If you apply early they still give you an extension from the date your current permission to stay ends, not from the day you apply for the extension.

You will need pass hpoto's and the form you can get at immigration or download from ww.immigration.go.th.

You will either need proof of incoem of 65,000 baht. (For income from within Thailand tax papers, for incoem from abroad a letter from your embassy stating your income)

If applying with 800,000 at the bank a letter from your bank confirming the amount for the last 3 months.

If a combination you will need both, both the money doesn't need to be there for 3 months.

Also your bankbook.

You can apply for a re-entry permit at the same time, costs 1,000 single and 3,800 for multiple. Need ome form and pass photo.
