Prasert Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 Tell TOT to move their ass to Koh Tao and collect their terminal and disc. I've been saving it for them for over a year now and I only charge a storage fee of 500 baht per month. Let them take it to Phangan and reconnect it. If any technician manages to come up with a bullshit story about views, the satellite is straight above your head (with a slight 6 degree angle to the south), so as long as you can see the sky above the place where you want to put the dish, it will work. Also keep in mind that TOT has excuse generators running on their computers. These programs produce excuses that sound acceptable to most customers and usually stops them from further complaining/questioning. TOT uses a "Just Pay" program which means don't-complain-just-give-us-your-money.
sbk Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 rawbkk, where are you located on Koh Phangan? Just curious as to why you went the IPstar route?
angiud Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 Why instead don't you ask for a CDMA modem to CAT Telecom (10/12.000 baht). Very fast down/up speed and a 700 baht/month fee. You can stay online nearly in the whole Thailand (except BKK and some rural areas). See the Computer & internet posts on ThaiVisa too>
rawbkk Posted December 22, 2008 Author Posted December 22, 2008 hi guys, thanks for the answer...we are on than sadet(exactly thong reng, open an resort there),so there is nothing even no mobile.so i have to go for ipstar by now. there are rumours that there will come thai gsm by mid next year, but we will see. but interestingly enough we went today to surat,so ive visited the tot office in don sak.this time they were really friendly, tryd to explain me that the quality of ipstar internet is not very good and will have drop outs in bad weather conditions.so i told them that i am aware of this and i wouldnt blame them for that they sad they gonna sort it out with the ipstar team and gonna call me tomorrow for an installation date...so we will see...but i think it will be ok now...sometimes its good to see people in person. i will keep you updated on this...and still,if anybody is using tot ipstar on koh phangan or even other regions in province trat i would be happy about some comments if you are satisfied. all i heard is that tot seems to be much better(if it internet works at all) than cslox...at least i will get 100% more speed for almost half of the money!!! @ sbk: where do you live on kp??? ok,all the best kai
sbk Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 over in Ban Kai, but you are right, no signal over there. So, the CAT modem would be useless. No land lines at Thong Reng? i believe Than Sadet has land lines....
Prasert Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 Visit the CAT Telecom office in Nathon on Samui and show them where you live on a map. If it's within 3km of a fiber junction box, they may be able to supply you with a G.SHDSL line (2.3Mbps up/down). The weather is hardly ever the real reason for bad connectivity. We used to run 2 IPstar business connections on Koh Tao and the excuses if 1 was malfunctioning were ridiculous. The business packages perform way better than the home packages, many (thai) forums in Thailand are loaded with complaints about TOT IPstar. And that's mainly due to a general lack of knowledge within TOT. The posts on TV are just the tip of the iceberg.....
rawbkk Posted December 26, 2008 Author Posted December 26, 2008 thanks gyus,i will try to ask in samui...but for now i will go with tot satellite!!! all the best kai
