Now that chrome is out of the beta stage, I'm thinking of changing from internet explorer at last and am wondering ....bottom line,

what will I loose?? favorites, bookmarks, etc??

What will I gain?? speed?? reliability? user friendliness??

I must admit that most, if not all of google's offerings have been reliable and user friendly in the past....will chrome be the same??

There is nothing wrong with using multiple browsers. I use Chrome the most because it is the fastest. I would change it to the default browser but it still has problems with Hotmail. I removed Safari because it has a nasty habit of crashing and the only way to recover is to reboot the computer. I use Opera 10, IE 7, Firefox and Chrome.

Hey Gary.... I have switched to Chromes months back and do still use IE for Hotmail as it does have one problem I am aware of. And that is I cannot reply to emails when using Chrome. For some reason I cannot add text to an email when I reply to it. It's as if the text box is unrecognized. What problems so you see using Chrome with Hotmail?

I agree Chrome appears to be much more faster than IE....

Chrome opens Hotmail and I am able to read email with no problem. Like you I am not able to add text to reply nor am I able to compose a new message. I don't use Outlook Express so I have no idea if it works.

OK, I finally bit the bullet and downloaded chrome and altho i tried 'save to disk' and 'run in current location'.....it wouldn't install. even tried rebooting to no avail. Could the problem be that I'm running xp64bit??

I just checked 'google chrome help' and it seems that there are some issues with xp64bit with crashes [in the beta version] and not being able to install.

Are there any 64 bit users out there with chrome??

I am running Vista Ultimate 64 and have all the popular browsers loaded in addition to those mentioned in other posts also have Maxthon2 installed.

But to reply to your question with Chrome I find that I am not able to use online banking and have not been able to find any way around it. With Firefox there was an option to fake the msie browser to sites but I find no such options in Chrome.

For sure the best way to find out is to load as many browsers as you want to test and make sure you always select NO to the question about making it the default when you start it. Maxthon2 does not try to become default and seems to be one of the best browsers, in particular I like the tool that lets me capture selected parts of the screen and save the capture.

I have been running multiple browsers for several years now and thus far have not found any that I would trust as the default except for MSIE

Good luck in getting your xp64 download to work.

You'll get loads of google adverts added for a start.

I downloaded chrome just to have a look after reading this post. Initial thoughts were it seems to be quite fast and no obvious problems, however when reading my on line newspapers this morning there were loads of google ads on the pages that I don't remember seeing before. I loaded the same page on Opera and IE the adverts were'nt there. Google appear to be inserting adverts into apparently blank spaces in the newspapers pages.

Free advertising but I doubt if it's legal.

Never seen that before... must be some odd newspaper web sites.

It's the Daily Mail web site http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/index.html so not an 'odd' newspaper, not everybodys favourite but still one of the major newspapers in the UK. On the home page the first one I saw was just below the 'editors six of the best'. There's a space between this and the picture below when viewed on IE, Opera, etc. but on Chrome Google adverts are inserted into that space. If you go to a news article there's usually a 'blank' space down the left and/or right hand sides but on Chrome Google adverts have been inserted in some of those areas. Compare the pages in both browsers and you'll see what I mean. :o

I quickly looked on the Telegraph site but that seemed OK. Haven't had time to look anywhere else yet.

I started using Chrome when my Firefox crashed and burned after an upgrade. It's faster and generally I like the feel of it. It has the options to import your Favourites so you won't lose anything. Most secure websites such as banks do not support it so the fallback for that remains IE7 which of late seems more stable than when it first appeared. Like some posters here, I run Chrome, Firefox, Opera and IE7 and pretty much that is the order of preference too.
