Taiwan Visa Any Experience?

Hi

Me and my thai fiancee are hoping to have a short break in taiwan for my birthday, anyone had any experience with the Taiwan embassy regarding tourist visa's for thai's?

I have looked on the website and I can have a 30day VOA, but my fiancee would need to apply for a visa, just wondering how easy this is or should i look at going elsewhere?

I don't know about Thais, but it was hard as hel_l for my Vietnamese wife. They sort of implied that she was going there to find a husband I had the luck to get the contact details of a minister in Taiwan who then contacted the Taiwanese office (they don't usually have Embassies, only trade representations). Well worth the effort though, we both really liked Taiwan, there is a trip report (geared toward birding, though) on my web site.
