I married a Thai lady 25 years ago. We were married in the Umphur and then both moved to the USA and have lived here since. 12 years ago I divorced her for cheating on me. I remarried a different woman a year later. I am considering a job in Thailand and am wondering if my divorce in the USA will be recognized in Thailand or can my ex who is a Thai say I am still married to her since the divorce was not registered in Thailand? She is the type that might try anything to make life difficult for me including following me to Thailand to mess my new job up.

Is there a way to check legal documents to see if she did register the divorce in Thailand without my knowledge during one of her visits after our divorce?

Thanks for any info any one can offer.

Yourm divorce is legal and recognized by the Thai government. The fact if the divorce was also registered in Thailand is irrelevant to that fact. Your new marriage is also recognized by the Thai government.

Contact a Thai consulate in the US for how you can inform the Thai government of the divorce.

Are you 100% sure about that?

I am in a quite similar position but I was married in Germany, the marriage was registered in Thailand (I had to do this byself) and last year I was divorced in Germany. I dont think that that the german officials contact Thailand about every marriage/divorce. But anyway it is only a problem for the former Thai wife if she wants to get married new in Thailand.

No, a government will not notify another government if a couple with mixed nationalities divorce, as they also don't inform about the marriage. But not knowing doesn't make it illegal. As you said, it will only be a problem when one of them ever wants to get married in Thailand again. Then they just have to show the divorce papers.

An English guy told me to get the Non Immi O visa with my marriage certificate. But I am divorced already.... I think if I would do this I can expect a lot of problems...

Better to stay here legal...

I had a problem with this. I got married at an Amphur in Thailand. I later got divorced at the Thai consulate in LA. I recently got engaged to a new woman who is Laos. I learned I couldn't marry her because I wasn't officially divorced from my ex wife. I had to find my ex and get divorced a second time at some place near On Nut. Fortunately my ex was agreeable to this after a friendly pay off for the trouble of her coming down to Bangkok.
