Today i visited the London Thai Embassy and wished to apply for a 1 year non 'b' visa.

I had all supporting documentation with exception of a work permit, the company i will work for requires me to work in bkk via telephone and it is written that i will frequently leave the country, with this understanding i thought it possible to apply for a 1 year non 'b'.

I was told i need a work permt and ended up having to apply for a tourist visa with two entries.

My question is, can i apply for a 1 year non b once i get my work permit in Thailand, i assume i will have to venture out to lao or cambodia to do so??

Thanks for any adivce in advance, Karl :o

You went to the wrong place to get your visa. You would of gotten a multiple entry if you had gone to Hull (or mailed application) or one of the other Honorary consulates.

You will need to have a WP3 (receipt for work permit application) to get a single entry B visa at any of the nearby consulates.

After you get the work permit and it is valid for 1 year you can go to KL and get a multiple entry visa.

Or if your employer can provide all the documents required and you are on a salary of at least 50,000 baht per month you could get a one year extension. Then you could get a multiple re-entry permit.

Yes you can. It is a whole process and completely unnecesarry. Next time apply at the consulate in Hull, they would have given you the 1 year non-B without any problem. You can still request them (Hull) to invalidate the tourist visa and give you a (multiple) non-B instead. Contact them first to see if they can do this for you. They accept applications by mail.

Or even a Multi Entry Non Imm O Visa. Hull will issue and you can get a Work Permit with this.

Problem is i have travel 4 hours back to london to collect a visa i don't want/need. Would i stand a half decent chance of getting some where with the following email, of which i'll send to Hull ( i will of course include my passport number address etc etc )

Good day to you.

I would wish to cancel my tourist visa due to applying for the wrong visa, i applied at the london Thai embassy yesterday morning (monday 2nd Feb) with special permission to enter the building during closed hours (due to the snow).

I was told i could not apply for a non immigrant visa 'B' with out a work permit and i was asked to apply for a tourist visa in London then apply for a work permit when i arrive in BKK.

I contacted the company i will be assisting and have now been informed by the company director that my role within his company does not need a work permit when applying for a multi entry non immigrant visa 'B', as i will be promoting telesales and travelling out of thailand to help with other branches of the company every 1-2 months.

My questions are as follows.

1) Please may you cancel my application for tourist visa

2) Can i forward all the relevant documentation to support my required multi entry non immigrant 'b' visa while you hold my passport

3) once the tourist visa has been cancelled can i forward the remaining balance of £44 to yourself so you can process my 1 year non immigrant 'B' visa. Or due to misguidance will i have to pay the full amount of 5000 baht (£100) and lose the £66 i paid at the London embassy on the 2nd Feb 2009?

I thank you for your time to read this email and i would not be typing this email if i wasn't in such desperation.

I am very much looking forward to spending more time in your beautiful country. Karl Othen

I would just call tghem and explain the situation. Then you can also ask which documents you need to send and to whom.

You won't get a refund for the money you paid for the tourist visa.

Thank you.

I do however wish that the woman i spoke to at the London Thai embassy would have infromed me of Hull.

I would not have traveld for 8 hours today and wasted near on £150 doing so in 8" think snow lol.......... oh well, i'm more informed to tell others now :o

Embassies are always more stricter then consulates, best is to always keep that in mind.

Good luck with the visa change and once you are in Thailand you will mis the snow.

You have to remember there is no direct link between London and Hull. London is part of the embassy and the ministry of foreign affairs that is full of goverment employees. London should of given you a single entry visa according to the rules. Getting a multiple from them in any case would of been like pulling hen's teeth.

Hull is an Honorary consulate and does not play by the same rules as them. They operate more like a private company.

You are going to have to get your passport back and give up the fee for the tourist visa before you can send it to Hull.

Again, thanks for your help.

You won't need the WP-3 receipt for Hull. Don't worry, the documents you have now are more then enough.
