sawasdee ka, i'm new here as a member but i follow this forum for a while.

i need your help/advise for my husband.

he is now living in chiangmai with non-immigrant"O" (married). on the visa is said "ENTER BEFORE 12 MAY 2009". he just got another visa run last week and the stamp said he is allowed to be inthailand until 16 May 2009.

my question is, can he still do another visa run on the 16th of may and get another 90 days?

if not, when does he have to apply for the extension, on the 12th or the 16th?

this is our first year together in thailand. we hope he can get another year permittion :o and he has no plan to fly out for the new one. what / how should we plan for it? we know about 400,000 THB in HIS OWN bank account...but i'm affraid ther's something unexpectable happen on that day. is it difficult in chiangmai as in nong khai?

thank you in advance for all your reply ka.

He would need to exit and return before 12 MAY 2009 to get another 90 days if I understand your situation correctly. If he has had the 400,000 baht in his account for 60 days or more, he could apply for an "Extension of Stay" anytime. Best to start the application process about 30 days before his permitted to stay expires.

If he has the 400,000 baht in the bank for 60 days he can do the extension during in of the last 30 days of any of his entries. He does not have to wait for his visa to expire.

It is not difficult to get the extension you just need all the correct paperwork.

A bank book showing the money in the bank for 60 days in his name and a letter from the bank confirming the account ballance is the most important.

Then 2 copies of all the following. Marriage certificate, your house book and ID card, his passport photo page, visa, entry/permit to stay stamps and TM 6 departure card. Photos of you both in and arount the house with one showing you both under or next to the house number. Map to your home. Two photos and 2 TM 7 application forms filled out.

You both have to to immigration together for an interview when you make the application.

After application is accepted then they willl put a stamp in his passport telling him to come back in 30 days while they consider his application.

He could make the application on April 16 if he wants or do another border run on or before the 11th of May and get another 90 days.

Thanks for all helpful infomations.

we were at the immi office today...'in person'... just wanna ask if it is o.k. if we show our 'money' in 'our account' out side of thailand.

i can guess the answer (NO!, of course.) but we just wanna a try.

we might try the other way , go to KL and apply for a new one there, so we don't have to transfer our money and pay for those expenses...it might be cheaper to do it in KL???

anyone had experience asking for a non-immigrant"O"(married) in KL ? how much would it cost, and how long would it take?

my husband can have another 90 days from Mae Sai, then go to KL before the expire date stamped on his visa run, sometime in August, do i understand it right?

or he must go to KL before the 12th of this coming May?

sorry for questions, and questions...we were there at the immi but they seems to be TOO busy to talk to us in detail. i don't know if there're too much customer or too less officer!

As you said the money must be in a Thai Bank in his name only.

If you cannot meet this he will have to go to KL or Penang and get a Multi Entry Non O Visa.

like you said it would be in August. He needs marriage certificate, your ID Card and house book. A bank book with some money in it. It would be better if you went with him but it is not essential. Apply in the morning and pick up next day afternoon. Cost for Visa 5,000 Baht. He will still have to do Border runs every 90 days with this.

He would be better if he could get the 12 month extension from Immigration.

He can apply for another multiple entry non-o in August. Just remember that he has to do his border run before the 12th of May to get another 90 days.

At the moment a multiple entry visa in KL is $142.50 US. It could change before August though.

Check back here before going to KL to see if things have changed in relation to getting a visa there.

There is no need of even trying to show your money in the bank outside Thailand at immigration. It will be no.

You could check with his embassy as to what is required to get an income letter that would show 40,000 baht per month income. Some will do it upon showing bank statements that you have the money to equal the 40,000 baht a month.

Like you said khun jamesjdaly, I'm in good hands in this forum (especially with Ubonjoe & Lite Beer; 2 moderators).

lots of thanks and also for the right away reply!

Khun lite beer, i wonder when you said..."He would be better if he could get the 12 month extension from Immigration."

it sounds like there's a different getting a new non"O" and extension from the immigration??

and also it seems to me that he still need to show those 400K (or less?) in his own thai bank account..? his recent one we got from frankfurt embassy and we didn't have to show anything about our money.

I think you are getting visa and extension confused.

A visa is what your husband has now it allows him a 90 day permit to stay when he enters the country.

You can then extend that permit to stay at immigration. For this you need the 40,000 per month income or 400,000 baht in the bank for 2 months.

The nearby consulates do not use the same rules to get visas as those farther away from Thailand.

He would not have to show the full 400,000 baht in the bank to get a new visa. They just want to see that you have some money to live on.

An extension is much better than a visa because he would not have to leave every 90 days. Or have to get a new visa again. Just make a report to immigration every 90 days and once a year get another 1 year extension.

It also saves a good deal of money also. The 1900 baht that an extension costs is much less that making all those trips and then paying 5000 baht for a new visa.

You don't want to know. It is not exactly a polite word.

Hi guys, i just made my last entry before my Non-O multiple entry expired on the 21st February 2009. I'm given my last 90 days.

I'm thinking of doing the 1 year extension and just realized the 400,000 baht for 60 days requirement.

I am going to put 400,000 baht in my bank account and after 60 days, i will only have about 2 weeks left to apply for the extension of stay.

Will i make it in time?

Please advise, thanks in advance.

Yes, applying two weeks before the expiration of your current permission to stay will be in good time.
