February 24, 200917 yr Hi, Does anyone know a good hotel or resort to stay in Chiang Mai for a first visit there ? It should be near the Night Bazaar, who is IMO a good area to stay (a lot of shops, markets, restaurants ...) but correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks
February 24, 200917 yr If you could be a little bit more specific about your budget, some specific properties would be suggested.
February 24, 200917 yr Centara Duangtawan is very nice and on the edge of the night bazaar. Don't forget to do 'Walking Street' (actually several streets). http://www.r24.org/chiangdao.com/chiangmai...n/pictures.html
February 27, 200917 yr If you can afford it, D2 is on Changklan Road right in the heart of the Night Bazaar. Their rooms are comfortable and the hotel staff is the best in town. Highly recommended. The food is excellent too. http://www.dusit.com/hotels/thailand/chian...itd2/index.html
March 4, 200917 yr Author Sorry for the late response. Thank you guys for your answers. If I have to pick one from that list it will be Centara Duangtawan. Good review, nice rooms and nice rates. The D2 hotel is great too but far above my budget. Will rather spend it on food than a room But if you guys have other hotels, don't hesitate. I still have time to take a look. Oh and I forgot, WIFI is important too, so I can write mails and surf a little before going to sleep Thanks again
March 5, 200917 yr I usually stay in hotels when travelling but have decided to give guest houses a go, all part of the credit crunch and the falling pound. I have found this place, and whilst I have never stayed there, the reviews are all good. I am booked into there next month, perhaps worth a look. http://www.allin1gh.com/html/presentation1.html theoldgit
March 5, 200917 yr We stayed at the Wild Orchid, which was beautiful, cheap and really laid back. Run by a nice Dutch fellow who has a foundation rehabilitating drug users from Europe at a temple up north. It's called the Wild Orchid for all the beautiful flowers he had there. 300B a night upwards- but try and get room 13, it's the best. Has cable, fan or aircon, nice beds. No breakfast included, though. And it's within easy walking distance of the Night Market.
March 5, 200917 yr Give the Montri Hotel a try, older style hotel near Thapae Gate but friendly staff, good food in the restaurant down stairs. The rooms have aircon, cable tv, wifi and are only 1000 Baht per night including breakfast.
March 5, 200917 yr i stayed at the pornping hotel good value if you book through asiarooms. How is the Pornping nowadays? I used to stay there and liked it, but it's been quite a while. Has the upkeep been good?
March 9, 200917 yr You could try out Daret's House 4/5 Chaiyapoom Road [email protected] Room only 160b, although I haven't actually stayed there. Very close to night bazaar. Nice terrace restaurant serving some of the best and cheapest food in Chiang Mai, and amongst the cheapest beer. Also great fresh fruit shakes.
