Government Seeks Thaksin's Extradition from Dubai

The Foreign Minister ordered the Thai Ambassador in Dubai to cooperate with police and legal authorities and to assist them in seeking the extradition of former premier Thaksin Shinawatra.

Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya said that they were making progress in sending Thai authorities on a visit to Dubai. He met with the government's political and legal departments to prepare the case and gather all of the relevant information, before moving forward.

These were the preliminary steps in seeking the extradition of Thailand former premier Thaksin Shinawatra, and bringing him back to Thailand for prosecution.

The government would like to bring corruption charges against the former prime minister, who fled Thailand last year, just before a court pronounced him guilty of violating a conflict of interest law.

So an article in an Asian publication ( Link posted in another thread

in this section -one of the many ! ) Gives the impression that

in recent years many weapons have been smuggled of the border into Thailand

from Cambodia ( that's easy to believe if you have ever been through

one of the border post because they don't check anything ! ) and have been

stockpiled to potentially take on the military.

How many people believe this? How many people believe what we saw

in Bangkok a few days ago could spread to provincial cities and towns

with the worst-case scenario being street gunfights with military.

Do you think the rural population is angry enough to do this?
