There seems to be a number of threads with guys having taken their kid/s out or wanting to take their kids out of Thailand without the mother travelling together recently and I wondered what the implications of a one way or return ticket would have on check in / immigration etc.

I've only travelled with the mother as well but when I go down to Singapore which I do regularly, I often end up on a budget carrier and as I don't often know how many days I will be away or whether I will travel back direct, I usually purchase a one way ticket for each leg as the conditions are too onerous and too problematic to change dates or destinations etc.

I am presuming it is no problem for the mother going out on a one way ticket but it could be an issue for the country of arrival if they have no onward ticket, much the same as arrival in Thailand for foreigners who don't have a visa and enter under the 30 day waiver.

Does anyone have any experience of this or care to post any comments ?

They will check a Thai national when they depart Thailand that they either have a return ticket or a visa (a suitable visa which would not require you to have a return ticket) to stay for the destination. My son fly's on a Thai passport 1 way to Singapore but then he has a dependants pass for Singapore and so does not need a return ticket.

You can always just buy the return and not use it I guess.

Corect me if I am wrong but there is no rule that the mother needs to accompany the child, but they must be accompanied by an adult.

When I fly to Singapore without a return they used to sometimes ask about length of stay and onward destinations etc. but they no longer bother. I guess with me it is the amount of times I fly in and out, never breaking the rules and usually just for a few days.

Going to Singapore on a Thai passport, they will want to see return ticket or a green card at check-in in Thailand. They check every single time. If you have neither they won't check you in. I have always seen this rule applied. On a UK passport they will check you in and you can enter Singapore on a 1 way ticket, I have done this many times (never seen it happen on a Thai passport).
