Hi,

I intend to visit Thailand in April to marry my Thai girlfriend :o . I met her previously in 2007 and 2008, but we have been speaking by phone everyday for the past 2 years.

The total duration of visits will be approx 7 weeks (if including April).

Is this duration long enough to satisfy a settlement visa, and show a relationship? :D

many thanks.

yeah that should be fine. I guess not only the time spent together in LOS counts, but also the time the relation has been kept even if apart/long distance.

cheers!

If you have evidence of all the phonecalls for the 2 years, evidence of your trips to Thailand and that you have actually met (photos of the two of you together on your trips) then you should be ok. The official line is that you must have met each other before and must have a genuine relationship. By showing phonecalls to her everyday and the fact you have met before you should be ok.

Ignore the two posts by micky 44, they show a complete and utter ignorance of the rules and requirements.

As said by Worldfun and CharlieB, if you can show regular contact whilst apart then you should not have a problem showing that your relationship is genuine.

You may be pushing it to get everything done in 7 weeks. Plan well and you may just make it but you will be in the hands of the British Embassy.

You will need to sort permission to marry from UK embassy that takes 2 working days. Then you need it translating and then affirming. You can then marry. You will also need to organise a TB cert with IOM. You could get all this done in 3 days, but that would be pushing it. You will then be able to put in the paperwork for a visa.

My wife has been waiting four weeks. She finally spoke to someone yesterday and they said things are very busy at the moment and settlements visas are taking 6-8 weeks.

Good luck, Paul.
