7by7
do we know if its generally the case for cases that do have complications to take that much longer? Yes, they can take longer as, depending on what the complications are, the post may decide to refer or defer the decision. paulyturner
Many thanks for that info 7by7 it does give an insight into the process, thankfully it doesnt seem that our situation applies to the refferal, deferral process so with luck it may not be delayed in that manner, I also note that as of yet she hasnt been requested for an interview and thats also part of the referral process as i can tell anyway, ahhh well for 24 hours i'll relax until the next question pops in my head! Cheers my friend!
TickTock
Got the visa!!!!! Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!!!!!!!!!!! Total of 8 months since we started this and I'm glad it's over. Best of luck to everyone who is waiting, at least the waiting times are coming back down to a rational level. Off to get very drunk.. Strongbow here we go! Well done Fluid. I was staright behind you in the original queue and can't believe how long you have been waiting. You must be chuffed that the wait was just two weeks this time. It seems to have speeded up a lot from March/April/May of this year. My Mrs came across when she pregnant and we now have a daughter. I still get a kicking about how bad the hospital experience was in the UK and next time 'we have in Thailand'.
DWALDO
We did the same as Inspector Gadget, we handed in the application for my wife's son on October the 9th. We were told that it would be at least 12 weeks before they would pass the application to Guernsey for the final decision. Knowing it would take at least another two weeks here we put down a travel date as the beginning of February, so if it does get granted earlier than that I'm not sure if the travel date will be set as we asked, or since it's a child settlement the visa would be some how linked up with his mothers. Since she has ILR hopefully he would be granted the same, then surely travel dates would be insignificant. We'll just have to wait and see i suppose. drink75
see...now im worried, as althought its been less than 4 weeks, other people are getting there decisions granted, whilst im really happy for anyone who gets throught the system and can be with there loved ones, i so cant help but worry, my missus is still adamant that because our case is a little complex thats its going to be a 3 month wait..do we know if its generally the case for cases that do have complications to take that much longer? complication in this instance is that i met her in uk and she took a voluntary departure to leave the uk 2 yrs ago almost.but also guys and seriously I am so happy for people who are getting there wishes come true. everyone deserves there true shot at happiness, just scary as hel_l is the uncertainty eh? Hey paul, don't worry too much about it. I'm pretty sure that the reason our visa was granted in just 2 weeks was because we had already applied and the embassy only has to check the things we failed on previously. All applications take different times to process depending on their strength as well as the officer who is dealing with it. I know better than most about how you over think things while waiting so just hang in there.
paulyturner
thanks again fluid, looking back it does look like you were put through the mill eh? am hanging on in there as best i can, its been a long and tough few years finally there may be light at the end of the tunnel, hopefully in a month or so i'll also be the one with faith restored in the system to do the right thing by family, just like you are now! your back in the UK for xmas then? ExoticMatter
I'm over in the UK now so the misses will be travelling alone. Fingers crossed she doesn't get lost! Not sure where your TW is transiting through (if at all) but when my TW came through Doha she got a bit caught out. She can read english at a slowish speed but the departure boards switch between English and Arabic so quickly even I have trouble catching it. I'd advised her (it was a quick transit) to find someone friendly on the first leg who was going on to Manchester and follow them! Which is what she did and arrived safely. only to have a bit of an inquisition at Manchester airport (as mentioned in an earlier post) shame shes coming for winter not summer (I made sure my wife came for summer didn't want to scare her back!) Good luck with your future life, Regards, Exotic Matter

7by7
Most airlines will provide an escort service. Just ask when checking in. My sister-in-law did this (with Thai) when she visited us early this year; she was met as she left the plane and the escort stayed with her through immigration and customs until he had delivered her to us. No charge; I was going to give him a tip, but he returned to airside immediately they had found us and before I could do so!

My GF is in the UK now and she also wanted a direct flight so I flew her into LHR - £376 was the best price I could get. The drive from Manchester was a small price to pay after the previous stressful 7 months. I was also reliably informed the Border Agency staff aren't as petty as in Manchester and am glad to say she sailed through. I know how you are all feeling but just stick with it as it's worth it in the end. Good luck to everyone applying from Ian and Chotika. PS My heatings also on full blast and she's still got two coats on.

Just want to wrap this up by saying my daughter-in-law arrived at Heathrow last night (got her visa 1st October after 6 weeks) so she and my son are now together, and she is freezing but amazingly cheerful. 'paulyturner': our case was definitely complicated and similar to yours in that they met in UK and she was obliged to return to Bangkok 22 months ago when her student visas ran out and she was refused another one. They married in Bangkok 20 months ago. Our main complication is that my son is partially disabled in a way that is not always accepted (CFS/ME) and lives on a combination of benefits and a tiny part-time business with a vanishingly small income, supplemented by tax credits. All we could do was supply 12 months of bank statements showing that his total income was marginally above the most basic benefits level for a couple. I was extremely worried about this, but in the event his wife was summoned to collect her application papers and visa long before we expected (we also thought 3 months, but it was 6 weeks). It was even slightly comical because she and her sisters suddenly received several phone calls and emails to collect her papers IMMEDIATELY, and they all feared the worst (no hint of a successful visa, of course) but in the end it seemed we had supplied such quantities of stuff that they wanted it off the premises asap, even before the usual collection times (the outside staff wouldn't let her in at first but the inside staff keenly over-ruled them when she insisted on consulting them). There was no interview. I am not really recommending this sort of overkill, but it worked in our case. I had been fanatically careful about labelling everything and putting the papers into self-explanatory sub-sections (stapled together, or using treasury tags) that would survive the way they remove the papers from our packaging and put them into their own. My daughter-in-law added to this FIVE albums of photos documenting their 2 years together. No wonder they wanted it all gone. She was given a hard time at Heathrow last night, and it sounds like the sort of interview she might have had in Bangkok, but didn't, and she was taken off to a medical room for a through scrutiny of her TB certificate for some reason. But she is here now, and they are ready to face together whatever life throws at them next.

paulyturner
Thanks so much for sharing a little of that story exoticmatter, i may get a nites sleep tonight, I hope that in that case i have sent enough photos etc..wat a relief it must be for you to have got them here finally!! and whilst i think i have handed in more than ample evidence of everything, i fear i could have been more thorough in my photo albums and also in my stapling of things, may seem trivial but i suppose its what you think of isnt it. Lets just hope they see the genuiness of it all and I pray to buddha everyday, as i definitley dont want to go through this hel_l ever again, am so glad there are people on this site that do understand these things and whilst there are maybe worse things in life to happen to people, for those of us who have this to deal with it is our lives and our futures after all. As of today since the 22nd October theres been no news, I think this week MAY be a big week, but again its hard to judge isnt it? we shall see we shall see. coyc2
I am amazed and handed in our UK settlement visa application on 13th November 2009 and it passed in just 10 days !! It was prepared by ourselves (a lot of hard work by us but we saved a lot of money) and as she had her our house, a degree and previous checkable work history and I hit the criteria it helped - we handed in about 8 kil0 of documents !! no interview !! Record speed and I hope others are fortunate for a quick favourable result. i do have one question - Its valid from 1st January and looking at flights they are expensive in new year but theres one taking off on 31st DEC at 8pm - my wife is worried the immigration in Bangkok airport will make a problem as its the day before but the plane would not land until the 1st !! I look at it that the first is when she can enter england but dont want her to have any problems. Any Advise - will she be okay ? Thanks

I guess as the case with these things when having to ask the big boss it depends how she is feeling that day and how busy they are, literally every foreigner in front of us in the queue was getting turned down, I was so sure she would to us too, but she took one look at our son in my arms and started signing, she even wrote approved because of our son. Ha ha, it does seem daft they just cross out the old name and miss and manually write mrs and her new name, but the important thing is they update her details on the central government database so she can then get a new ID card made Martin
paulyturner
We were refused and to say im devastated is an understatement as I sit at work waiting for Aom to fax over the letter of refusal notification, i'm at a loss to where it went wrong at this stage and numb to the core. May I suggest that you start a new topic to do this, as it could get lost in this one.
tjthai
paulyturner So sorry to hear you got a refusal. As we are in the same position (different reasons - stepdaughter refused in our case) all I can really say is get the appeal faxed to the AIT as soon as possible. Hopefully the refusal notice will be more informative than ours and you can work out what the actual reason for refusal was. I do hope that you can address this reason without too much difficulty. Send the additional documents to the embassy and then I am afraid it is a waiting game....again! I wish you the best of luck. TJ
