Would acupuncture work?

This is a tough one LW. I had a colleague who developed alopecia almost overnight in East Timor a few years ago. She tried everything but to no avail, but achieved some slow progress after a few years with conventional western medicine back home. I would spend some time consulting conventional physicians, neurologists and others if its very serious. As far as I know the causes are unclear, and so treatments are few. Some people suggest it has underlying psychological factors related to stress- as a cause. I would investigate specialists in your own country. Sorry I can't help. PM me if you want to discuss the psych. factors.

What type of alopecia are we talking about here?

If it is male pattern baldness, no cure.

If something else, there are various causes and some of them are treatable e.g. alopecia areata, an auto-immune disease.

Suggest you start with consulting a dermatologist to find out wht type this is. If it's Alopecia areata, the dermatologist may be able to treat, if not get back in touch and I'll recommend a specialist in auto-immune diseases.

When you go to see the dermatologist, if possible bring along some of the hairs that have fallen out, may aid the diagnosis
