Hello everybody,

I am currently in Thailand on a transit visa (my third, obtained yesterday getting back from KL) but I am working here and want to get my non-immigrant B so I can get my work permit. My company has provided me with all the documents I need and I initially planned on getting the non-immigrant B in KL on a business trip but some document was missing so I couldn't get it. Now I'm wondering whether I could just change my status while I'm here. I read this in one of the stickies:

Note 3: If you are in possession of a valid tourist visa or a 30 day visa exempt entry stamp and qualify for extension of stay and plan on doing so, you may be permitted to change to a non-immigrant visa at an immigration office inside Thailand. This change of 'status' has certain restrictions depending on your particular circumstances therefore you should check with an immigration officer first."

What exactly might those circumstances be, i.e. what does the possibility of changing status depend on?

Also, where would I check that?

Thanks for your answers,

Nils

Believe on of the circumstances will be you need at least 21 days remaining on your 30 day visa excempt stamp...

You would need to have at least 21 days remaining on your permission to stay and secondly qualify for an extension of stay based on employment.

Wow, thanks for all your quick replies! So I guess I'll just drop by the immigration here in the next days...

One more thing: I have to go to Singapore on Sunday, which would be the fourth time I leave Thailand in the last 5 weeks. I heard that either the number of successive transit visas is limited to three or the days one can spend in Thailand on transit visas is limited to 90 - which one is true? I'm here on my third successive transit visa, but only stayed 35 days or so in total, will I be able to get a fourth transit visa when I get back to Thailand next week?

No such rule any more, in the past there was a limit of 90 days in a 6 month period.

Plus it is not a Transit Visa. It is a Visa Exempt Entry. A Transit Visa is something totaly different.
