Dear All,

I am in need of accurate information.

My one year non immigrant visa expired yesterday. Two days previously I had extended by having a further 90 day stamp put into my passport allowing my (on paper) to remain in Thailand until 21st June 2009.

Yesterday I spent 2 hours at Immigration in Chiang Mai awaiting my one year visa to be renewed. I am legal guardian to my 13 year old daughter who is in full time education at an International School here in Chiang Mai. My paperwork was complete. However, Immegration have asked for confirmation that I have 500,000 Baht in my bank account. I do not have this amount. I am a single parent here in Thailand and although I did have the resources one year ago; owing to my business not making any money; only draining money from my account over the past 12 months. I have now not the required amount.

I am supporting myself and my two daughters well here in Chiang Mai. I have enough money to live comfortably.

A friend has offered to put the required sum in a Bank Account in my name but I think it has to have been there for 2 months before I apply.

My questions are:

Will my 90 day suffice? for the time being at least.

Am I getting charged each day I overstay my one year visa?

How can I get around the 500,000 Baht without going to Mae Sai every 14 days?

Will they turn a blind eye to the 500,000 Baht only been in my account for a few days?

Please help! I do not want to have to leave Thailand and return to my home country. My two kids love it here. I am happy here.

Thank you in advance.

I am a bit confused with you talking about a Non O Visa 90 day entry and a one year Visa. Are you talking about a Multi Entry Non Imm O Visa that you used to enter with 2 days ago. And was this your first application for the Extension at CM Immigration which was unsuccesful?

This is what the law says.

(5) In the case of parents, there must be an account deposit with a local bank made in the name of father or mother of not less than Baht 500,000 as shown in bank account transactions for the past 3 months. For the first year, it should have that said amount in the bank account for not less than 30 days at the submitted date of the application.

If you have had a Multi Entry Non Imm O Visa and you entered 2 days ago the 90 days will still be valid. So you have 3 months to season any money in your bank.

One thing. They might want to know where the 500,000 Baht came from and why it suddenly dissapeared from your bank after you got your extension. Some offices are more strict than others.

As a last resort you can always get Non Imm O Visas or Tourist Visa from neighbouring countries.
