A storm also hit Ayutthaya's Bang Pa-in district yesterday, toppling a deserted ancient temple and damaging 73 houses, disaster response officials reported.

The centuries-old Wat Se, located near Bang Pa-in railway station, bore the brunt of the storm as four large, wooden pillars in its chapel hall were uprooted, causing the building to collapse. But five Buddha images in the hall were undamaged.

The wooden hall, built in a traditional Thai style, was erected during restoration works on the temple.
