I’ve got a left elbow that’s really starting to hurt from what I’m sure is some form of repetitive stress syndrome cause by the 10+ hours a day I spend at the computer. Over the years I’ve worked hard to have healthy workstations; chair, desk, keyboard, etc. and except for this have stayed healthy. Years ago I had wrist problems and others pains but when I got serious about my work setup they went away.

Anyway… I need to have a doctor look at this elbow. I’d like to get someone really good orthopedic surgeon (is that the right specialty?) who knows repetitive stress (assuming that’s the problem) and could provide treatment. Does anyone have recommendations?

Personally recommend Dr Panupan Songcharoen , he is a Professor at Siriraj and has private practice twoce a week as follows:

Phyathai II Hospital (near Voctory Minument) Sundays 9-11 AM

Chao Phya Hospital (Pinklao area) Thuirsdays 6-7 PM

Call before going to make sure these haven't changed and that he is in the country.

Will most likely advice a trial of rest and NSAIDs but good idea to have it thoroughly checked out just in case.

Effective immediately stop using that arm for computer, switch to other hand.

Once better there are special mousepads you can buy with built in wrist support to decrease strain.

I had an RSI problem in my wrist and hand, to the extent that I could not life a cup. I purchased a e-document from Sharon Butler which provided a series of stretching exercises, as well as associated useful information. The stretching started with the neck and shoulders and, over a period of six weeks, worked down to the wrist and hand. Took a few minutes a couple of times a day. The exercises gradually release the stuck and injured fascia and free up the muscles.

Within six weeks all the pain had gone and has never returned, and I still use some of the stretches to keep things running smoothly. I am now a firm believer that appropriate stretching can help solve many problems; recovery from a broken back five months ago has been aided considerably with stretching routines.

Anyway, not sure if I am allowed to post links, but googling Sharon Butler RSI will give you some answers.

Good luck!

Before you start thinking about getting your elbow "chopped" try a couple of things first

1. Get an elbow brace/strap, the type the golfers use and wear it as much as possible to islolate the tendons

2. Do some weight training on your arms - curls etc to strengthen the tendons

I had pains in my left elbow for a long time due possibly due to RSI, and tried the abovementioned and it worked

Thanks all.

I do a full weight program 2x a week with a trainer and swim laps 2 x a week and that has made a huge difference over the years of keeping my shoulders and arms feeling great - really my whole body! (I'm 54 btw). This left elbow has just come up the past few months with a very heavy workload.

I'm right handed so the mouse and such is OK. I use a good Microsoft egronomic keyboard and mouse set and that's made a big difference.

I'll check out Sharon Butler and look up Dr Panupan Songcharoen.

Thanks everyone,

I had a severe case of tennis elbow and went to see Dr. Mason at Bumrungrad. He has a fellowship from Harvard in sports injuries and was very helpful. He is probably more of a shoulder and knee Dr. but I think he is good for all types of arm/leg type of problems. He gave me a cortisone shot and some excersizes to help. As the other posters mentioned....you will need a excersize program to strengthen the tendons and muscles.
