To anyone that can help me. I have had a headache all day trying to sort this out. I fly into Bangkok on the 28th April and have a return flight on the 31st May. I am planning on travelling around southeast asia and not just Thailand and my trip is a total of 34 days long. After arriving in Bangkok i intend on spending 10 to 15 days sight seeing in Thailand before going into Laos. After going from Laos to Vietnam I hope to end up in Cambodia where I want to enter back into Thailand to get my returning flight to the UK, spending a maximum of 5 days in the country again. I understand you get a 30 day visa when you enter the country, but as my return flight is longer then that, what sort of Visa do I need to get? Do I need to get two seperate visas? I have been told that I dont need to get one at all, as when i re enter the country by foot from cambodia i get a 15 day visa. is this correct? If so, will i get quesitoned when i arrive in bangkok as they will see i dont have a visa for the full 34 days?

Can anyone help. please

thankyou

JamesHamblin, with your travel itinerary you do not need a visa to enter Thailand, but the airline may not let you check in for your flight if you do not have at least a single-entry tourist visa or a confirmed flight out of Thailand within 30 days from your first arrival.

Yes ^^^, your problem is going to be boarding the flight to Thailand. Immigration rarely check for onward travel, but the airlines do.

You could try to wing it as your trip is only slightly more than 30 days, but safest bet is to get a single-entry tourist visa from the consulate in Hull http://www.thaiconsul-uk.com/ that will get you 60 days on arrival (and more importantly get you on the flight).

Your 60 days will get cancelled when you leave Thailand but it will have done its job :o

You get a 15 day visa-exemption when you enter at a land crossing but by then your flight home will be well within the 15 day period so no issues.

A question ; it is always assumed that we will get 60 days but is that always the case?

I ask this as I've just got my first tourist visa from Seoul Embassy, always been exempt stamp or non-O before, and they have helpfully stapled a little note inside the page opposite the visa saying:-

Please be informed that your exact validity of stay in Thailand shall be denoted on the stamp of the Immigration Officer at the port of entry (i.e. airport).

This is, of course, widely known but under what, if any, circumstances would they not give someone 60 days?

There are many countries that only get 30 days on a tourist visa arrival. Only the visa exempt entry countries get the 60 days.

If the OP has a flight from somewhere in Thailand to another country (he mentions Laos), then as long as he is able to show that flight booking when checking in at the UK airport, he will be ok as he is able to demonstrate that his visit (initial but that is not important) is less than 30 days. There is no requirement to show that your exit destination is the same as your point of original departure.

Of course, if plans are fluid, then applying for the tourist visa from Hull is better. In fact, I would apply for a double entry visa as plans can change and double entry visas are also free at the moment I believe.
