Volunteer Teaching.

Featured Replies

I am semi-retired in the UK and enjoy voluntary EFL teaching for a couple of months every year. Just finished a short stint at a rural school in Gaeng Krachan, Petchaburi, and loved it. Unfortunately it is not certain whether they will take on another volunteer this year (December) because the Principal is retiring and she managed it and accommodated/fed the volunteer.

Does anyone know a school I can contact directly? Not interested in rip-off volunteer teacher agencies. I met two girls who paid such an agency £1000 each!!!!!!

I would quite like to get down to Koh Lanta. I saw a school there years ago and thought how nice it would be to teach there.

Any help greatly appreciated.

IF you don't expect any compensation at all, I am sure plenty of schools will accept you, especially since you have prior experience. Just send out some e-mails and see what happens.

Hi,

I intend to do that but I need details of the schools, i.e. location, email addresses etc. Any ideas?

Sorry, I only visited Koh Lanta one time back in 2005. I also saw you made a post in the Krabi forum without any hits yet, google showed me nothing, and I am sure you tried that as well.

For all it's worth, I wish you luck in your attempt :o

Many people think that they do not need a working permit for volunteerwork.

Info from immigration will teach you that you do need a workingpermit at all times if you do anything else as washing the dishes in your own home.

The penalties are severe.

Do not believe the so called NON PROFIT agencies or schools who state that you do not need a working permit

YOU ALWAYS NEED A WORKING PERMIT FOR WORKING BE IT VOLUNTEER OR PAYED.

thats interesting i didnt realise that, are the documents alot less for a volunteer though? if i wanted to try some teaching before getting into any full time payed work do you think it would be a good idea to do some volunteer work to see if i enjoy it and to find a decent employer, would it be best to get a volunteer work permit in that case and then change to a payed one? thanks
