the army will never be able to control the reds, they will mushroom up from all parts of the country and conduct gurillea style civil disobedience.

some of their brothers have been killed, many are injured.

no mc2 you are incorrect. Not all parts of the country. There is, in fact, a great swathe of area that does not support Thakin, or the red shirts at all.

you are right sbk. there probably wont be much civil disobedience in the south , more likely in pro thaksin strongholds.

still, with enough financing, anything is possible.

after all, bkk is more or less democrat area ... and plenty of civil disobedience there

According to a thai newspaper online about 25 redshirts attempted to protest in Nakhon si Thammarat and had to be rescued from an angry crowd of about 400 people by the police. It would seem you do not necessarily understand the hatred and contempt that Southerners hold for Thaksin and his cronies.

Supreme Commander said that all vehicles returning from the provinces will be searched for weapons if necessary.

I am pretty sure they are using rubber bullets, and they are firing over their heads, not into the crowds. Dan Rivers reports that they are using the water cannons and tear gas liberaly.

Red-shirts pull back to Govt House

By: bangkokpost.comPublished: 13/04/2009 at 03:26 PM Red shirt leader Natthawut Saikua told supporters the United Front of Democracy against Dictatorship would use Government House as its final stronghold in rallies against the government, and urged red shirt members to amass at the site to deter a crackdown by troops.

He urged protestors elsewhere not to clash with authorities, but said they were to return to Government House to secure the main venue should they encounter clashes.

Jatuporn Prompan, another red-shirt leader, told audience at the main rally site there had been a war room meeting between Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva and the military. He claimed the meeting concluded it was impossible to block DTV’s broadcasts and the military was unable to control red-shirts upcountry. The Army planned to hinder demonstrators at Government House by cutting food and water supply, said Jatuporn. He added that according to the meeting’s conclusion, top cabinet members and the prime minister were to remain inside a military base. He also alleged the meeting agreed to allow police dealing with demonstrators to carry firearms.

hire a big group of tough guys.

not beyond the realm of possibility, provided it is organised and executed properly.

i think fresh elections will put an immediate end to the chaos. the reds, have pretty much had their say, so have the yellows, I think that is the two main pressure groups of Thailand, now its time for the people to have their say.

Abhisits puppet masters .... are the stubbon ones, who don't give a fukc about this country.

the army will never be able to control the reds, they will mushroom up from all parts of the country and conduct gurillea style civil disobedience.

some of their brothers have been killed, many are injured.

The quicker fresh elections are held.... the better

Maybe elections will put an end to this for now but not for long

There 2 problems though, 1st is the fact that UDD is just a front for thaksin and they will not accept anything else than the complete reinstatement of the 2006 TRT government. 2nd UDD is an insurgent force, giving in to any of their demands set a precedent of the government giving in to terrorist demands.

The reds are to blame for all the current violence so any blood will be on their hands.

Police fail to convince protesters to move gas truck

Police's attempt to convince red shirted protesters to move away gas truck from Din Daeng area failed Monday at about 2.37pm.

People living in the area were seen running away from the scene as the protesters reportedly soaked a cloth with oil.

A reporter at the scene reported that he saw the protesters beat Din Daeng residents.

There is an irony somewhere when the red shirts beat the urban poor of Din Daeng flats. Not to mention terrifying them with the LPG truck. I thought this was about class

now it's the civilians versus the reds...

This will all fizzle out by Thursday.

I think fizzle is the wrong word, from everything I'm seeing on TV.

Yes, perhaps fizzle is a little inappropriate in the circumstances. I think the government will have this demonstration/riot under control by Thursday. I simply cannot see how the red shirts can prevail over the army.

My prayers are with all involved. Let's hope casualties are kept to a minimum.

Thaksin calling for a revolution, from outside the country. :o

Let the poor loyal folk to the sweating and bleeding for him. What a great guy....

Funny, I don't see Abhisit or the generals out on the street in fatigues either.

What a ridiculous statement.

The whole argument is kind of a moot point anyway. Leaders don't take charge at the front lines.

Security forces will not use weapons against people : Supreme Commander

Supreme Commander Gen Songkitti Chakkrabat addresss on a TV live at 3.15pm Monday that the urgent meeting of the emergency-tackling command wanted the public to realise that all citizens have equal rights including the rights to protest in peaceful means and all were under the laws.

The security force would not use violence and weapon against people if not necessary. They however would reserve the rights to protect themselves, to bring peace and order and to protect others' rights, he said.

He also urged public especially motorists to excuse the inconveniance if officials wanted to conduct a search for weapon.

Expressing confidence that the situation should be brought to normal as soon as possible, he affirmed that the authority would not use the weapons more than neccesary and would implement the special measures in shortest period as possible.

I've just had a flick through the channels on Thai TV, and the only reporting I can find is ASTV (yellow shirts). Anyone else watching TV and able to find something useful (in Thai or English)?

www.tannetwork.tv has just reported that the military has taken a more firm control of the area around the Pullman hotel, although unconfirmed reports it that the Reds have broken into a nearby Siam Commercial Bank.

In Chiang Mai, roads in and out have been closed by the Reds as well as the train station.

TAN Network will report again at around 2PM, give or take a few minutes while they get updates.

TAN Network home page runs a full width banner for ผู้จัดการ / Thai Manager Network. I noticed the same on an ASTV publication today. If these are in any way linked (as I presume they are) I would treat any news reporting on them with a pinch of salt. ASTV is run by the Yellow Shirts.
