Sondhi's Son Alleges "gestapo" Behind His Father's Assassination Attempt

Jittanart Limthongkul, Sondhi's only son, said tonight that a "Gestpo state" is being formed as the base for a new political force that's "as bad as the red shirts.""A new form of war is emerging -- it's being launched by the collusion of certain police and military officers. They are plotting a new coup. It is said that a minister, who is said to be involved in the attempted assassination of a privy councillor, is actively behind this new exercise," Jittanart said in a "phone-in" from Bangkok to a concert in Phuket organized by the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD).

He said this group of plotters was employing "assassins" to hunt down those they consider their enemies.

He added that they are creating conditions for the dissolution of the House -- so that the police and military officers involved would dominate the political scene.

"The red-shirts can suddenly turn blude shirts. This plot has many levels. They wanted to make Sondhi Limthongkul and Chanchai Likhitjitta (privy councillor) their sacrifical lambs...."

Sondhi's son said the incident at the Interior Ministry last week when Premier Abhisit Vejjajiva came under attack had been planned "to kill the prime minister -- and put the blame on the red-shirts."

Jittinart said this "new power group" is putting up military barrier on the outer ring to prevent Thaksin Shinawatr from returning while blocking Premier Abhisit with an inner ring. He said: "The people like us must be united and don't let them hold us hostage."

Indeed scary and for those of you who don't know for what the German word "Gestapo" stands for - here is the meaning "Secret State Police"

Addition: GESTAPO was the most feared police during the Nazi reign of terror in Germany 1933-1945

An interesting article over on Bangkok Pundit about the shooting and its motives (my apologies if these are already posted).

Nation blog post which is a translation (synopsis in English)

Nation blog on Sondhi attack

A quick glance suggests its a brief synopsis. Sorry don't have time to do a translation.

Original article in Thai at Matichon:

Saw new topic started so just copied my reply from other topic as this one more relevant.

If it wasn't about Thailand I'd think that David Icke wrote that.

David Icke - has forcasted most of what is happening, politicaly and economicaly, around the world today.

When he is talking about shape shifting lizards - then you have to think a little outside the box to understand. Think 4 by 2s

Surely not! Much easier, simpler, to blame it on Thaksin and the reds - less brain power required.

In fact if this plays out how I presume it is, it wouldn't be overtly stupid to say that Abhisit may have to look to Thaksin for some help out of this mess.

We will see.

Abhisit talking of amnestyiong the 111 is a move in that direction although I dont think he will go as far as Thaksin, but he is a lot smarter than many gave him credit for. He has avoided being crushed in a pincer movement and seems to recognize what is what. Who ends up needing who will be interesting to watch but compromise time is coming for anyone who believes in keeping the parlaimentary saytem going and there are those on every side that dont, but Abhisit for everything he has been accused of probably does although he may find some around him not so linked to this.

The PAD are also an interesting movement. Remember Sondhi said in his famous speech they represented the middle class interest and not anyone else's. History tells us, in democratic development whether evolutionary or revolutionary the middle class and lower classes at some point unite to develop a system mutually beneficial and then after that they struggle with each other. To date in Thailand this hasnt happened as other forces have always turned them on each other meaning the lower classes mass and the middle classes economic power negate each other. Will at some point they unite? Naturallyu bearing in mind the Gramsci comment posted elsewhere before

In my opinion, exactly the opposite! Instead of increasing the number of players, reduce it. Concentrate more power on him and his friends and clean out the enemies (actually his enemies are also the enemies of Thailand, the enemies of the Red Shirts and the enemies of the yellows). I am sure now Sondhi will be more than helpful and share all his informations with Abhisit.

Remove them from their positions (and not move them to an inactive position).

If Abhisit is doing that, PAD will love him and the Red one will respect him if he can proof that they are not the bad guys.

On the other side I wouldn't overvalue what a son speaks direct after someone shot his father in the head......Maybe it is not true.

Former Employees Struggle To Come To Terms With Sondhi’s Survival

Foreign journalists once duped by the media mogul are shocked, saddened to hear he'll be okay.

Sondhi has made a lot of enemy's, the only question is why they waited so long?

Never attribute to conspiracy that which can be explained by incompetence

So basically hes saying that there is a division in the police force trying to kill people with political power?

It is scary, but only if it is true, you dont want to believe everything you read because rumors can be started and these rumors are ussually the cause for chaos. this might be the reason this group of assasins are doing this, to create a state of fear and throw this country into a state of chaos for their own gains. one thing is certain here, these people arent doing anything to help the country, its just making things worse.

The more Abhisit involves the military and police, the more he will be in the deep end of this power struggle. Thaksin is given a way too prominent role in this by the government.

The way out is trough the transparent and civil tools of a democracy. Elections. Get the 1997 constitution back, amnesty for a majority of the red carded politicians - of course excluding the more controversial of them like Thaksin - and call a snap election sometime in october. And most important get the UN observers in to validate the election. This will make it very hard for a 3rd power, or "junta" to do a power grab and spin to get away with it.

Abhisit has just called on all politcal parties to propose charter ammendments within 2 weeks to be put to the public and then be ammended. This move is going to upset some of those that some people think are on Abhisit's side. I am sure the people providing securtiy for the PM must now be those trusted by the Abhisit wing of the dems. This may all not be far form what you are proposing although not sure on the time line. Excluding Thaksin and cutting the ground from under any Juntaites is clearly designed to try and from a center consensus from all in the parliamentary side whether it will work or will just result in a vice like crush remains to be seen. However, this move by Abhisit does seem positive. It remains to be seen whether he has the power to pull it off.

Right now the military units gurading Abhisit may not just be protecting him from rogue red shirts but also other shadowy forces.

Let me puke!

All of us know that there is a fascist axis (incl. high ranking military officers) which prevents Abhisit to make the reconciliation inside Thailand and instigates the war against this peaceful Cambodia. My feeling is that the fascist axis takes Abhisit in hostage only, I don't think they are disgusting enough to hire killer men.

He is not only a lot smarter, but he has a very good adviser on his back who knows al the loopholes of Thai politic, because he experienced them by themselves his name is CHUAN. In his time also his hands also were tight by the military.

The fact that the Red's weren't fingered right away as being behind it surprised me. It seemed like a rather bold and well planned plot to be in their arsenal--especially since they had just finished their protest (which seemed to end rather abruptly for some reason and I don't think it was the fear of violence).

Most likely there may be something to this and I am not much of a conspiracy theorist.

And hiding off the front page of the Bangkok Post internet edition is this rather vital bit of news. Glad to see they announced this was going on on a Sunday.

http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/politics/1...mending-charter

Govt takes first steps to amending charter

By: PRADIT RUANGDIT

Published: 18/04/2009 at 12:00 AM

Newspaper section: News

The government has taken the first step's towards amending the constitution by asking coalition members which articles need to be changed, says Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban.

The coalition partners reached a consensus on the charter modification process at a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva yesterday, he said. The government will now solicit MP signatures to begin the parliamentary process.

Mr Suthep said the changes would satisfy democratically-minded people who support amendments.

The coalition parties have been asked to report back on which parts of the charter they thought should be altered within two weeks, he said.

A source said the meeting yesterday was attended by the parties' "de facto" leaders - Chart Thai Pattana's Banharn Silpa-archa, Bhumjaithai's Newin Chidchob, Ruam Jai Thai Chart Pattana's Suwat Liptapanlop, Social Action Party's Suvit Khunkitti, and Puea Pandin's Pairoj Suwannachawee.

Mr Banharn, Mr Newin, Mr Suwat and Mr Pairoj are currently serving a five-year political ban for complicity in electoral fraud committed by their previous parties.

The source said Mr Banharn and Mr Suwat had asked the meeting to take a sympathetic stance towards the red shirt United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship protesters behind the recent riots in Bangkok.

They also favoured a reconciliatory approach in dealing with convicted former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra, the red shirt's leader.

However, other party leaders at the meeting said that a compromise was not appropriate as the situation has gone beyond that point.

Mr Newin reportedly said the issues to be amended should be put up for a referendum first.

The meeting also discussed the controversial proposition of having an amnesty for banned politicians. The parties agreed the issue required cautious consideration, but said anyone convicted of criminal offences should be excluded from any such reprieve.

Tourism and Sports Minister Chumpol Silpa-archa told reporters the amendment would help ease the political pressure. He said the current charter has had far-reaching ramifications on political stability.

His Chart Thai Pattana party was looking to propose about 20 amendment items excluding the amnesty. The party may also put forward a way to speed up the amendment.

Mr Chumpol said the news of next week's joint sitting of both houses has raised hopes that the political impasse could be overcome through the parliamentary process.

When was this tabled to be done? During the red escapades last week?

Straight out of the Mandelson playbook this one.

There were may police and army people who fell into the Thaksin camp as he moved his people up into positions of responsibility. There have been a lot of coppers and army who have been massively sidelined since Thaksin got pushed out, and have lost their place at the top table, with little prospect of this changing.

So it isn't a surprising situation that many in the police and army aren't exactly enamoured with their career prospects since Abhisit got to be PM.

Collusion between some police and some military is pretty much what I am hearing on the street, although this is the first time I have heard it where the ultimate road didn't lead back to Thaksin. Either way, it is going to be very messy in this city.

Tourism and the economy isn't anywhere on this group's agenda, at least not until they gain control of the country.

The Democrats and Thaksin will never look to each other due to a lack of trust. It has been this way before Thaksin ever entered politics.
