Running Windows Home Premium on a Laptop and using a WiFi connection.

Several times over the last few weeks I get a strange popup window (bottom right of the screen) telling me that some Device Driver Software has been "successfully installed".

One just showed up reads:

Driver Software Installation

x=k…etY…, installed

The software for this device has been installed

x=k…etY…, Ready to use

I am given no advance notice that this "software" is available and therefore no opportunity to say "do not install" - all I can do is click "Close" in the Popup window - no other option there either.

Can anyone tell me what this means - is it a potential security risk for example - and how can I either turn off this or at least get some control over the "installation"?

You are probably usinga mouse keyboard or external drive plugged into a USB port andthe driver mus be installed each time.

Wikipedia says

device driver or software driver is a computer program allowing higher-level computer programs to interact with a hardware device.

Might be a virus but also may have something to do with some hardware you use i.e. WiFi adapter - only a guess.

Does this pop up show randomly or is it shown shortly after Windows has been fired up and finished to load?

Could also be something as simple as a pop-up ad if it's happening on one particular website only. Do you notice any other tabs/windows opening after you click on it?

Check your download folder - in FF or wherever - looksee if there is anything new & delete it, reboot.

Always make sure your AV is current & running. These guys frequent all the popular sites - make especially sure that you delete any .exe files that have been downloaded as they will execute upon reboot/startup Zombies. DoS.
